Burnout-California Art Institute and Associates both have classes that are considered open workshops. Usually an instructor or two are sitting in drawing. YOu can benefit from these. When you say la I assume you are saying Los Angeles? not Louisiana or Los Alamos or, blah blah...
Steve Huston had classes going and you paid as you go, listen around for him to start those up agian sometime soon when he gets his studio reestablished...he is genius. Villpu teaches workshops up there, and a comic book artist by the name of Bill Stout teaches workshops out of his house on the weekends. I am not sure if he is still hot into that, but they are $25 a session and he is very worthy...
Also try John Watkiss. He has a flier out saying he will give private instruction for $25 an hour, and I remember him saying he is going to start up an art school of some sort also...

Hope that helps...

California art institute is in thousand oaks. I go once or twice a week. Saturday mornings are uninstructed workshops. Much cheaper.

Art Center used to have free drawing every day from 4 to 7. Given the attitude that drawing has little to do with illustration (god knows they might be right) that was at AC, they may have cancelled it. It was free to all comers.

If it is still going on with the same set up, don't spread it around. If it becomes unruly, too popular, or just a pain in the ass they will shut it down fast.

I bet cal arts and just about every college or JC has somethin.

If you live where you can get to Huston or Villpu, by all means do so. I live in the boonies, one drawback to it.
