Oh my god he is posting again, hide the chickens!

I have been drawing landscapes for some time and came up with this here:

I would like to add something to make the picture a bit more interresting but I just don't know what.

Any ideas?

Hey Nex... looking good so far..
For some reason this picture screams for a crashed spacecraft if you ask me. Hmm.. no.. wait.. that's tacky. I reckon a trail of migrating nomads would suit nicely..

That is fantastic Nex, really the kind of stuff I'm into.

How about some huge mountain ranges faded in the distance?

Danny's nomad suggestion sounds quite good, if just to get a good sense of scale (ya see, I did learn something!).

Great stuff Nex, I'm gonna be watching this one.

Nex, thats a really cool image. And i agree with Danny too. And put a crater in that distant planet for me would ya'? And i think you should give the image something that would make people think, and wonder. Like maybe a dinasore skelton. (implying that they were on this planet before they were on earth, or that there is life on other planets, or that all the dinasores got sick of earth and so they grew wings and flew here?) Just some suggestions. Lol, be creative. Nice image

Here's something I came up with. It's not the most original idea, and in fact it borrows pretty heavily from Phil's (Wacomonkey) great post a while back on establishing scale. If you look hard (not too hard, actually) you can probably also spot the Ralph McQuarrie influence.

Oh yeah, and my lighting doesn't match your lighting, so take this with a grain of salt. Anyway, hope it helps to generate some ideas.

I like Francis' take on Nex's original alot.

However, the second furthest building is darker than the next closest which maybe puts the scale off?

Hey, thanks guys!

Danny: I thought about the crashed spaceship-thing too.. but I thought it would be too clich. I will definitely add some nomads there-- good idea.

ceenda: you must be crazy, your stuff is way better than mine. Really dig the cleanness in your pictures.

ex: I will add you a nice crater there
I like the idea with the skeleton.. its been made before but i think it would fit well.

Francis: Thank you! To be honest I would have never come to that idea.. i like the feeling of depth that is created by your overpaint. especially the scale on the figure looks very good.. i was not shure how big or small I should put things there.

i think I will make a combination of all ideas and try to work them in together somehow.

great advice anyone, thanks.

Okay, here's my take on Nex's cool pic. I've tried to put into practice Fred's advice about a foreground, middleground and background.

nice pic simon, I like the clouds especially.

ex:

ok here's my opinion:

*takes off radiation suit*

I would try to make the corners of the splash graphic blemd even more into the brackground. Then you could make the radiation sign more visible (by making it black maybe) and add some easily readable text.. like "Sean Fitzgerald's Online Gallery" or something.

To be honest I cannot help you much since I am not really good at web page design (the best proof is my website )

Does not look bad so far.. maybe go more with the strong bright colors.

I worked a bit on my picture and it was really hard to not simply copy what francis and ceenda did with it... will post it here when i am finished.

I cropped it down and dorked with it a bit. I pesonally dont like a lot of sky in my images unless I have need to have so much atmosphere.

This was about 30 minutes again dorking around...sorry for butchering your image...just thought it could use a foreground object. THis is just a sketch of an idea. If I were to persue this further, I would better compose this image and design the ship instead of just throwing one in to the image with no thinking...

oops errr.. must be an optical illusion.. you know the hot desert air..

great pic ceenda, really like what you did there. Looks like a scifi book cover to me.
I thought about flipping the image too.. somehow it looks more relaxed this way I think.

[edit: typo]

Nex your pic looks great, and the others are amazing too.....but for some reason Nex's original is more pure. I think it's because it came from his mind alone....you know? In my opinion all the original needed was some interest in the ski, like a sunrise hinting a few planets in the far backdrop....I dunno guess I just like that lonely feel on the first one! But great as always guys!

So I finally gave up on this one.

I am not quite happy with how it turned out now.. I really liked what you guys did with it.

Here is where I stopped.

Deathbyduplicity: Maybe you are right.. I will try a simpler approach too sometime with this pic.

If anyone of you has any additional advice and is not yet sick of seeing this one popping up all the time then lemme hear please.
