So, as has been suggested here a few times, I tried painting a silhouette first, then shading, figuring it might make getting the proportions right a bit easier. I used a photo of your truly as reference.

Very nice.Few, but very correct and delicate strokes I only have problems with the white
background making the whole head turn into a
black silhouette if you're not looking closely. Just tone the white down or perhaps make a simple background.
