First real try at digital painting since
discovering this forum. I did it while looking in a mirror, its not an exact
likeness tho, I'm looking a bit older than in RL but it was for practice. So.. any tips?

I like the colors and the way you looking into the mirror
unlike the others
in my opinion some stronger shadows
would do a nice job....

but still very good work

This is a really nice peice. Looks like digital pastels.

I have really nothing to add other than the usual, finish the dark side of the head.

Have you studied anywhere? Currently in school? This is a really nice spontaneous self portrait. Like the lighting a lot...

Grrrrreat colors... Juust GRRRRRRREAAAATTTT! I agree with some other comments tho, your neck looks a Tad bit Long Mr.Brian Stretch LOL seems like you painted the face, and then decided to add in the neck etc after..which might be the reason why your neck looks kind of long....

coo tho... berry berry nice....

I really like it... you look kinda like me (although not nearly as sexy, of course)... or at least like some of my relatives. Anyways, you must have experience in other types of art, right? Well, keep up the good work... very impressive

Thanks everybody for the replies! I really appreciate it

I spent some more time on it, smoothing it
out, adding a little more color to the skin,
shortened the neck a bit and then jammed the contrast up cuz it looked neat

Fred & Qory: I graduated from the classical animation course at the local Applied Multimedia Training Centre a year and a half ago. It was only 10 months, and kindof just touched the surface on things, but at least pointed me in the right direction.
Since theres a lack of classical work, I'm turning to video games for a job.
I'll have to post some of my 'guys in spacesuits' stuff for critique sometime, my design sense is lacking :/

!!!!

like it a lot!

The left side of your face is missing a little.

Don't change anything else.

Light and shade through color temp and not value, nice.

Thats very nice for a first try at a digital painting. I really like the colors.

The one thing I dont like about this pic, is the neck. If your neck really is that long, im terribly sorry if I've offended you, but you must have some pretty strong neck muscles there, heh. Also, the right ear could be a little more defined.

Nice pic in all tho.

Looks very good! I like the way you improved it with the contrasts. It looks very realistic Maybe the neck is still a little bit too long?
Can't wait to see the finished result

really nice portrait mbrian ! And, I really like that you've made it from a mirror. That's more fun, and in a way more difficult than taking it from a picture.

And welcome to the forum btw. Though you've been here a few days now
