Here's a little something but while it loads, a quick pondering.
Is there anyone 'round here finding it rather difficult to go from traditional painting to digital ? I'm using Photoshop, maybe I ought to try Painter (altho the interface sucks like a tornado) ?
Because ooh this is annoying to lack the control you have with a brush.
About the pic: One hour faffing around. I was thinking about the 'Movie = Inspiration' thread as well as spooge's advice to pause on a DVD frame. I thought about Stigmata and what nice shots there was at the beginning. Alas, I don't have a DVD (soon! ).
No reference was used but I plan on re-doing it in the future Crit !

I like, I like!! You seem to have a good sense of the lighting and shapes. Obviously, you could always refine it, especially the hat, which I'm having trouble identifying, but it's still a nice pic...

Hi!
Looks good.
But first a stupid "by-the-way" question:
can DVD's be played on normal modern CD-Rom(32x) drives with any free software out there?
To the pic:
The face does not have many female features. It's hard to say if its really a woman.
The cheekline suggests "woman" but the nose seems too manlike (very big) the eyebrows could be a tad higher and more swung and maybe the lips could use some femalisation too. I think if you would make the upper lip a bit bigger it would look more like a womans lips.
I think in your lighting the bright values do not fit to the shadows.
Such bright light should create darker shadows in my opinion.
Hey but don't get me wrong.. I am just guessing. Maybe someone more competent can help you here.

Nex: No you cant. DVD-discs have less space between the "dots" than a normal cd. and also some discs have multiple layers that need specific lasers to see..
but a DVD-drive is backwards comp. ..but a bit slower on reading cds than a "real" cd-drive... |
