Heh....I usuialy don't draw big chunka guys but this just happend.
I was going to draw the dragon hunter from that pic I did earlier but it wasn't going like I wanted so I played around with it
This is a face that I didn't like. It's kinda cool tho so I saved it.
And this is the dragon pic that I posted before.
Now why have I posted that stupid pic again. Well besides wanting a bit more feedback on it and doing a bit of a whine because I didn't get lots of posts. I was wondering what people thought of the sort of style that these pics have. I'm a bit disenchanted with it personaly, but I want other opinions.
I am also interested in feedback on technical stuff partuarly on vales and colour as it is one of the areas that I'm trying to get to grips with.
I thought that the merlin pic I did was pretty good in a lot of respects but it still lacks a lot of things.
http://dove.net.au/~jbrasted/Merlin.jpg
I've been using the simple cartoony colours to play with value as opposed to colour. but I quite like the effect. I also wanted to know if I should work in more detail. A lot of the time the strokes are visible and I don't mind it all that much, but it's hard to tell if you have had the oppertunity to zoom out in PS. Are the brushstrokes a problem becasue of the fact that I'me leaving them too raw. Spooge seems to be able to do stuff like this and make it look good by cutting back into the strokes with another colour to create shapes that don't resemble round PS brush marks.
Anyway I'm rambling so I'll shut it.
Next pic will be something less Biffo.....something like a fairy I promise.

i see all these pics of people who just scribble around values and create these pictures and it makes me envious, of course i do have to work with a mouse untill i order a wacom but still, how long does it take to get so comfortable with colors and values lke the pics abouve suggests?!
(i just realized that my post was just a big "run-on" sentnce" *shrug*) |

LethargicBoy-
Ive been using PS as a drawing instrument for about 4 months. I've had very little experiance with colour before doing PS stuff. But I spend all day doing it now. How long it has taken me I don't really know, but the trick is to do a lot of thinking about it. Really listen to what people like Spooge and Fred say. Study every pic that catches your eye. look at how colours work in the real world.
I'm glad you like them I still don't like the colurs very much, but the values and shapes are starting to come together.

i had submitted a picture about a week ago and got some really helpfull feedback, allthough i can say i'm learning more from scouring this forum and other sites and just observing the different styles.
i dont know how to use the ubb tags yet and i dont want to just post my pic here because your showcasing your art and that would be rude
the url is kinda weird: http://digitalart.org/gallery/display.cgi?db=art&uid=default&view_records=1&ID=404&mh=1&ww=1
I think i'm capable of better work now though. |

LethargicBoy- your pic is good in a sureal kinda way. It's not realy my sort of thing but anyway. It's nice to hear that you got some usefull feedback on it.
Unlike me here who has only your kind self to thank for comments
Where the hell is everyone. Do I suck that much? does everyone hate me? If so how about some flame comments it would be a lot more interesting than this. I was very interested in getting some feedback so I know where to go from here.
Sigh....................... |

Well here is some feedback, I ain't much of a judge since I rather new at this but I think that your pictures need a little more detailing and more shadows to give it more depth. But that is my opinion. Cool pictures that could go further if you keep going further with them. I especially like the Dragon pictures and the only thing I though that was amiss is that there could be more detail, especially in the guy who is wielding the spear, he was kind of fudgy too me. Hope my input helps. |

More shadows, check
More detailing, check
Thank you
I was thinking of them more as sketches than final pieces but I agree that I should put more detail in.

Well, I think you should take at least the dragon picture further. I think it could end up to be really nice pic. |

it's kind of hard to critizize images that seem so early in their development, i'm not sure what their going to look like in their final form, so i don't know if i'd be jumping to conclusions!

They are finished as far as I'm concerned. It takes a lot of time to work something up so I only do it on an image I really like. these in my opinoin hold enough information to to stand up. So I suppose the question is. do these images need to be worked up more to be of any value. it it like "thats a cool sketch" or "If only he had finished the bloody thing it would have looked half decent"
I'm very fond of loose drawings but I have no idea if these are too scrubby and don't carry a message for other people. I also need the hard talk on wheather they are technicaly correct in certian areas.
Anyway it doesn't really matter I'll just quite down and surrender to the fact that I'm not really going to get what I so foolishly desire. I'll spend more time on the drawing next time. and maybe it'll atract some interest
I think I really hate the way these pic turned out. I'll go for a more sophisticated look and colour scheem next time. |
