Hi all

Just returned from my vacation in the states last week. I know I have said this in a few posts that I replied to, but let this one be the official 'hello again' post...

I have seen some really great stuff the last week and there were quite some posts to catch up to...

And I did this one recently so if you wish you're more than welcom to comment.

It's a great image. I like the colors.
There are a few things that seem kinda "wrong". The head is ....not where it's supposed to be i think...
And the hands are a little bit odd. His left thumb seems like it's not part of the rest of the hand. You have shaded the thumb too much with too dark shadows. His right hand should've been more if not detailed, but at least more defined shapes. You've made it too easy for you when hiding a hand somewhere in this blurry mess.
The legs could use somewhat more ambient light to show both legs.
The t-shirt seems a little bit stiff. Especially on his left side.
The right side of his neck has way too dark shading, creating an edge on the collar bone.
Other than these things it's great.

It looks really good.
I'm not too sure about the blue spikey things tho. they're cool but it look kinda wierd.
I would also have added some straining neck muscles.

Hey Boomstick!

I like the design of it, although I'm not sure I get what's it's about (punching one of those 'Batteries Included' flying saucers=?). I love the 'Ranxerox' glasses. Ah, this brings back memories...

Yeah, a few anatomy problems, but I'm not one to say anything about that.

i like your image and it looks painted very well, the only weird thing is the guys facial expression and bodily movement. i mean, his arms are in quite an awkward position considering he's uppercutting a piece of machinery...such as the hand on his left hand....i couldnt imagine myself being in that position if i were attacking a robot.

and how can he see thru those glasses? :]

I like it, although the blue shaded stuff looks a bit strange. The part which bothers me most, however is how apparent the muscles are... somehow I can't imagine someone's muscles being that apparent without them being seriously ill or skinned. There is a good layer of fat stuck to the skin which makes the muscles less visible and smooths out the skinned form... I think you should smooth out the muscles... give him some skin :-P

As I said, though, pretty cool... :-)

Yes, I still have problems with my anatomy. Getting it all right without reference is such a painstaking process that I usually get to bored with the pic before I get it right. This one is no exception.

And yes - Phil Hale was a huge inspiration for this painting... as were Jon Foster, Duncan Fregredo and a few others. It was mostly a process for me to see if it was possible (for me) to do a digital painting which has the same 'feeling' in the brush strokes as oil laid down by Hale. I think I did succed to a certain degree but to say that I even came close to the wizardry of Phil's work would be quite a lie.

The one I'm painting on right now is more in the tradition of Wayne Barlowe... Wait and see

Woops, didn't mean to make it sound like you were copying Phil Hale. I meant to add a smiley face to the end, but it ended up as 3 dots. That's what I get for typing under the influence of absolutely no caffeine

I love Hale, his paintings ar sooo damned kinetic.

a cool looking pic dude. Butteh.. I think the it's a tad too close to Phil's work. I mean the first thing I thought when the image loaded was 'Phil Hale'. I was able to immediately find some of Hale's work in my Spectrum books and found the resemblance was uncanny. So much so that I would personally find it a bit too close for comfort. I doubt that's really the association you'd want, right?
Having said that.. I do find you did a nice job.

I especially like the skin of the character. Nice variation of colours..

This WAS a test to do a painting which would resemble Phil Hale's technique. My recent paintings have been a seach for techinques that would fit me. And this one does. Now I only need time to move away from the Phil Hale influence...

heh... In a months time I guess I will be painting like Brom, Parkinson or a third artist. I'm constantly changing prefrences - It's keeping me fresh

Boomer, finally it works. It's the network here that is rather fucked up at times

I like it a lot boomstick. Great colors and a really fancy motif

Now I know what you're style reminds me a bit of, the style of the crazy illustrations that often comes with many newspapers these days, hmm, does that make sense ??

Anyway, haven't got much bad comments at all. Maybe it could be nice if some of the shaded shadows and areas was simpler details, that's all. And oh, his neck is not totally in the middle of the shoulders, but who cares ?
