Here's a character concept
i did at work. I started with a rough sketch
traced it with a blank paper over it and started to render it. The colouring is by Joachim.

Looks good as always micke. Just one question though. What do you use as a reference for clothing? In all of your pics you do a great job of rendering the folds and straps and what not. Something I have trouble with. |

Damn, really nice! i like the stylysed (sp!) look of the guy, especially the fact that he's rather broad (or should i say chubby? ) adds alot to the feel of the picture. Great colors as well.

Nice design. What strikes me the most is the understanding of how the thick fabric lays on the figure. If that were off the whole piece would suffer. The *ONLY* crit I would have is in the figure's right arm. Now, this is nitpicky, but that glove looks awful thick for anyone to shoot a rifle with, let alone a sniper. I, myself target shoot in a gun club from time to time and any sort of interference between finger and trigger throws off your aim in a big way. People get around this by cutting off the tip of their gloves (some actually have removable tips)
Just a thought.

Wow Micke. Damn cool as usual although it seems like you lost some of the detailing in the coloring. This is probably by choice, so im just nitpicking.
If you ever did detail it more with the coloring, i think it'd be cool to have some snow sticking to his boots, and maybe blowing across. Just tos how how bitterly cold it is.
On an unrelated note, i sent u an icq message the other day, but im not sure whether u use icq very often. Did you ever receive that thing from me? |

When you innerloop guys are all done with your amazing game you should include a whole other CD of behind the scenes work a'la a special edition DVD: concept sketches, character designs, test animations, interviews with the stars I hope its still on schedule, I can't wait to KILL this guy in order to take out my jealous rage!

Looks very cool micke. Reminds me a lil of the Star Wars art. I like Joachims colouring too. |

micke, is that top left one your rough sketch? you always have such clean lines I was wondering what your initial sketches look like - mine are always pretty messy. |

Micke: Looks great as allways, it remind me from some comic I've seen, but can't tell what.. damn!
Chapel: I think it's easy to draw clothing like that when you have actually lived in the freezing scandinavia and had to wear something like those at the wintertime..

Micke, you have such a cool style. How long did it take you to draw it? And was the original thumb the one on the upper left?
Very sweet....

Beautiful! Love the simplicity of the underdrawing - very spare of line. |

Thanks for the replys.
Dukez: That's right. He's a sniper with
snow camouflage.
Chapel: Yeah, i used referance. Had a couple of photos of snipers in snow camouflage, but
not of their feets. I just had to improvise.
Typical me...Don't know how it looks? Then add some straps, he he.
Saltydog:Yeah, i can see that the gloves
is a bit too thick, studying the photos most of them had quite thick clothing, including the gloves, but mine are a little too thick
Immi:We almost did'nt have any time to do colouring. Had about 3-4 days to do 14 characters and it took quite some time so we ended up to colour the sketches 2hours before deadline. We just had to solve it pretty simple. The reast is even more simple coloured.
Binke:He he, i had them in my mind when i did
it. Yeah Joachim coloured it in PS. We don't have any colours left in our markers.
Vortx: Usually my first try are even more rough. The upper left is the first one, the other 3 is the same, just scanned in to show the progress of it. I think it took about 45 minutes to do it. I love your designs by the way They look so clean.
Poxen: I probably uses the worst type of paper ever...Xerox-paper. The thing i like with it is that it is very thin so you can use as an overlay+ you can just use how much you want cause it's so cheap. The pencil i use is a Derwent4b pencil wich is very nice
and pretty soft.
Napalm: It might be pretty cool to include the concept art with the game. They will also be published i magazines i think.
Cos: I'm very inspired by Joe Johnston and the other talented designers working on SW.
They rule!
Flexible elf:
Thank you very much. Glad you liked it.
Loki: Thank you.
Manik monkei:It depends how clear the vision is in the start. In this case i just did one rough and started to clean it up.
Uusally i do a paper with lots of different and hopefully one will work. I think the deadline were pushing us too so we did'nt have time to try out different ideas.
Golden boy: Lol Actually it's very hot here right now.
