Attractive splash image!!!! How'd you draw it? Mind going over the major steps?! I like your pics in the gallery and the site layout is great too!

Like your site. Well laid out, great graphics, interesting. Pleasant, friendly tone to what you've written. Loads quickly too.

I had 2 small probs with the navigation, though. (I'm using the IE 5.0)
No little hand thingy on the splash page to indicate when everything is loaded.
When I clicked the graphic, your main page loaded behind the splash page. Took me a while to realise it was there.

Hope that helps.
Great site. (Partic'ly like "Lost")

I don't know what you guys say when his site loads quickly. I'm on a 56k, and between his large graphics and very slow server - This site sucks when it comes to speedy pages.

A little tip for you rdgraffix - Don't use the high quality jpeg unless for your artwork are photos. Convert everything else to GIF - You'll get the same look and it will load probably 10 times faster.

Welcome to the forum, rdgraffix. Noticed in your profile that you've just joined.

And a big G'day, too. Nice to see another fellow Aussie in the forum.

i'm on dsl and i found the site loaded SUPER slow. it must be the server you're on. as far as the tip to use GIFs exclusively, i've never heard that before, and i disagree. gif files are larger, and are used in place of jpgs usually only when you need really sharp iconic images. like with buttons or simple logos.

I really, really love the skull, even more on the larger size. Thanks for sharing.
I must have the slowest computer in the universe but I found the loading time okay. Maybe it's the time of day...Cheers

Your in Oz, too, aren't you, Teanne? Maybe rdgraffix has his site on an Australian server. That would mean you and I get a speedier load time. Woohoo, that doesn't happen to me too often. Plus, as you say, it could be time of day.

Impressive... most impressive. @:-)

Site seemed fairly speedy to me, and I'm on a 56K. Also an Aussie, so that could be a factor previously described. And really, if you're gonna look at an art site, you've gotta expect some large downloads.

Wow! Thanks for the feedback guys.

Trance-R, I'm currently writing a 'quick' desc. of how I did Souls Window (the illustration that was modified for the splash page), but it's turning out to be a bit lengthy, so I might just post it on my site.

As for the loading time issues - thanks for pointing those out. I've always found it pretty smooth myself, but from what has been said, it seems that it's a fairly decent loading time in Oz, but shithouse anywhere else. Is that basically what everyone's experienced?

I have to say that I don't agree with the giff suggestion though. I've found that giff compresion reduces the image quality more than jpg for relative file sizes. As was suggested, it's compression method is decent for some icons and logo's and such, but I haven't been impressed with it's handling of soft gradients or subtle tones. Besides, when I planned the site I decided from the onset to err on the side of image quality rather than file size. Especially after seeing some of the examples of over-compression out there. They fuckin hurt your eyes man!

I guess I may have to look at some other option if it's consistently frustrating for our overseas friends.

Well, I've finished writing the major steps involved in drawing 'Souls Window', and the splash image based on it, but it turned out too big to comfortably post here.

So, anyone who's interested can find it in the tips section of my webpage, along with some perty pictures of the various stages.

I hope it sheds some light, and gives you inspiration for work of your own.
