heres yet another picture Im working on, its of an angel.
>_< someHOW I lost the layers file, augh I dont know how it happened, I could have sworn I saved it as another name... so now all I have to work with is this drawing with a transparent background, I cant work on the hair easily(damnit and its not even CLOSE to done...) Ok so my question is what should I have for a background? Ive been thinking of a night bg but thats kind of bland.
the wings arent made of the traditional feathers, just think of them being made of energy/light or whatever comes to mind. |

I really like the painting so far. I like the wings too. Reminds me of the one God in Diablo 2, I forget his name.
No real critisicm's . . . looking good to me.

I like it!
The wings seem like they could use a little more detail though. I like the effect of the glowing energy wings, but it looks just a little too much (to me) like they were just evenly gaussian blurred. You might have better luck if you blocked in the form of the energy with a solid white, then applied a more subtle glow around that area.
I did a quick emulation of what I'm trying to get at by playing with the levels a little bit. Hope you don't mind me messin' with your pic. ;)
For the background, i think something at night would definitely be in order. Perhaps some storm clouds with lightning and a castle in the distance? ;) Seriously though, there's not much room to add much detail to the background, and you obviously want to focus more attention on the character, so I would go for something simple like a stormy sky, or distant mountains, or something simple like that.
And keep in mind that her wings would be one hell of a light source, and would be illuminating everything around her, including (probably) more of her body. Her left arm, for instance, would be lit more on the outside and shadowed on the inside.
Hope this helps. |

I like how the wings encircle her head and the auora, also, I would kill to have hair like that. Good stuff here.

How about a charred battlefield with (small and undetailed but clear) rotting corpses and burnt out catapults and stuff? Given the scale of the pic you could definitely fit some stuff like that don't you think? Then you can add a tear at her eye.
Looks great, I wanna see the finished version!

thanks
I think that tear idea is great, I wish I could have thought of it when I had the layers, but since I cant modify the skin layer so it would look good I cant do that.
I should have also mentioned I plan on changing the entire color scheme to suit a night(colorize blue in most places) or a day(leave as is) background.
I also like the castle idea, but the question is "can I do it?" Ill give it a shot, Im really bad at doing buildings so I may or may not add one.
*no one noticed this so far, but the right wing is way out perspective. I need to completely re-do that*

Are you familiar with a manga artist named Masamune Shirow? (He did the original Ghost in the Shell manga, though I don't think he had much input on the movie.)
Most of his anime work nowadays is traditional style characters (drawn by hand, or on the computer), and overlaid on a 3D rendered background. It looks really neat. You might consider trying something like that, if you have any modeling experience.
Here's a particularly good image of his that uses this method (scanned from Intron Deopt 2: Blades, for those interested.)

Hve you seen any of the books called Ah My Goddess? This reminds me a lot of that series. You might want to check those out and see how some of the pinups wre designed using the wings as a graphic element in the background.
One big problem I am seeing is that the wings are very two dimensional, built from a one point perspective shot. The figure is in a semi three quarter pose. The two pieces don't fit together well because of this. You might want to consider making sure the left wing, her right, recedes into space correctly, lined up in a semi 3/4 shot as well. ANd I would also use the same kind of sharp line that you did the rest of the figure with, only overlap the line with the color, so you still have a sharp edge, but no outline. The rest of the body looks nice.
Her glove looks like it was a bit too big for her, but she wore it anyway. Too many folds, they don't help define the form of her arm much, but that is a minor detail...keep em comin... ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

ya Im familiar with both of them. Oh! My Goddes(Ah! Megami-Sama is the original name) has a great art style, I simply love the hair and its so hard to draw. The wings arent really to my preference, they are to realistic I guess, with really long feathers and such.

About the wing being out of perspective, yep, I caught that when I was done and I resized it, I mentioned Im going to have to totally redo her right wing. I am just going to erase some of the glow so its a sharper image, but I dont want to totally get rid of that effect. |
