I see alot of great art in this forum, among them some very nicely scanned lead drawings, what i wonder is, when im scanning my pictures i need to edit it pretty hard in photoshop, adsjusting levels, curves etc.
I find it hard to get the pictures clean and nice at the scanning moment, maybe my scanner isnt very good, do you have some tips when scanning. |

I run in to this problem, too. Depending on what paper I'm using, I find it helps to put another piece of paper behind the paper that has the drawing on it. Sometime it comes out better that way. Also, remember that some paper isn't actually white, so adjusting the Brightness/Contrast will be necessary. Check, too, to see if there is an inherent controls in your scanner that might correct your problems before hand. Hope this helps a little. Good luck. |

I've never had much luck scanning graphite pencil drawings either. Because the lead is metallic, the scanner beam reflects it more than you'd want it to, and you just can't get any good contrast (and any smudges turn out nearly as dark as the lines you intended to put down.) My favorite solution is to draw with a hard charcoal pencil, or conte sticks. Scans much better.

well the best thing I can tell u is to "INK" ur drawings before scaning them . it dont have to be a fancy ink just some regualr ass ink and trace all major lines .. this will do 2 things .. give u good idea of where ur real lines are , (since when sketching u might do more than one line to represent one), .. and will help u do this .. once u got it all scanned in create a new layer , set it to COLOR DODGE .. get a Big brush, (or bucket) and a dark color . (dont think it matters .. and in the color dodge layer paint in the areas where u want to get rid of all pencil .. and Amaizingly it will leave all ink intact almost untouched .. so spend sometime inking per this will be ur final line add as much detail as u can . per this will save u much time adding detail again .. hope this helps .
I used that technique (which is new) for the following 2 drawings .. and it has worked so far
on the second image i left some of the pencil in intentionally for texture . sice I am still experimenting

i've always scanned my pencil sketches, and i think it's mostly a matter of having clean pencil strokes. i've never had a real problem with it, and if i want a digitally clean look, i just go over the lines a bit with the paintbrush/eraser once it's scanned in... this is a pencil sketch:
like i said, i scanned it, fooled a bit with the levels, and then cleaned up the edges of some of the lines. it turned out so clean that a lot of people have asked if it was done in flash or illustrator. photoshop all the way...
[edit: crap, posted the wrong sketch! ...visigoth's comments below are taken into account about the other sketch. ]

My scanner does it just fine... Then again, I also have a $400 Canon one... :P
Hennifer; Nice sketch...Good form...But as someone with a Class 3 liscense, I feel the need to critique his handling of his weapon! If there will be a firearm in it, anymway...
Cupping your off-hand underneath the grip of the weapon is a great way to provide support if you're going to do a single shot, but it destroys your accuracy. I know it's harder to draw, but try drawing his second hand wrapped around the knuckles of his first. That way, as the gun kicks up, he is able to pull it back down by leverage of his off-hand, therefore increasing his accuracy and rate of fire.

Ive never ever heard of Rhino 3D, have you heard of the game warhammer 40k from games workshop? Theres where i got the idea for the "blood" image. I think the rendered picture looks odd, the proportions is all wrong, but maybe thats because of the perspective.
