Hi people. Last night I was scribbling around in photoshop and I came up with this character sketch:
http://jason12.virtualave.net/character.JPG
Now that I have the basic sketch down. I'm really unsure how to approach the picture in terms of colouring. Airbrush or paintbrush? Any other suggestions would be welcome.
I don't think cleaning it up and airbrushing would suit the pic, but I'm crap at the 'painted' style so I'm in a bit of a muddle.

First off cool sketch , and well what i do ,, and this is just what i do and if everyone says that wrong ohh well cuz that what i do ,, i just make a new layer and put the sketch layer on top of the new one and start to add in the colors i think will work with the air brush , then once i have the colors down , i like to smudge them , to give it a painterly look but that is just me , for this you might want more of a hard brush to give it a more char look but maybe not , just depends on what look your going for , anyhow late.. |

Thanks for your reply proximo.
I don't really like the smudge because it doesn't give hard edges. Which is something that I am looking for.
I might clean up the sketch a bit, and then paint on a new layer, but still so the sketch shows through. That way I'll be able to keep detail and things like that in there. Still, not to sure, but I'm just gonna have to experiment with different methods.
Anyone else? How would you approach this pic?

Why not take a multiply brush and go in to add the color right into the sketchy part?? That's what I'd try..... |

yup set your brush to Multiply and start putting down colour. The pencil lines will still show through. when you have your basic colour scheme set you can then start to play around with normal brushes and stuff. Although if I'm doing a really quick colour sketch I often leave it at the multiply stage, It's a bit like a traditional marker technique.
Have fun. |
