Hey, I went to a local RadioShack today, and was lookin in the computer section for Diablo 2 (the raaaaaaave!! Its a great game btw), and saw a tablet. So I took it down from the high shelf under the watchful eye of the store owners, and looked closely, and it was a WACOM. I was looking at what seems to be on their webpage, the Graphire tablet. A cordless mouse and pen, battery free tablet. Its a 4x5 tablet, and the whole unit is the size of about a vertically places standard rectangular mouse pad. The price is at 149.99 canadian. I cannot afford this as of yet since my own phone line and cell phone bill is killing me financially (trust me, when you're 17 and have no job.. bills are a killer), I'm gonna most likely have to wait till I get some Japanese new years money, Christmas or my B-day. But for now, can anyone tell me if this is a good tablet, and if any of you have had any bad experiences with it. Sorry this had to be such a long and elaborated matter... Just excited that I actually found a tablet to see and touch with my own eyes and hands.

Any tablet is better than working with a mouse. You may also want to check online at some of the resellers for referbished tablets, they are loads cheaper and work just as good. My firt tablet was a 4x5 wacom I bought for $90 (US) and it lated long enough for me to wear a nice little divit in the surface.

It work's for me. It's been very reliable. I've heard people complaining that it's only got half the pressure sensitivity of the regular intuos tablets. The mouse is pretty useless though. If you do get one I reccommend popping it open and taping a double A battery or something into it for weight because it's really weird holding the light mouse. I wish I would have waited a bit when I bought mine because I wanted that nifty seethrough green one and I got the Drab Blue and grey one. boo.

I'm pretty happy with the Wacom intuous. The only complaint I have is that I don't have enough space to draw with. I got the 4X5. However, if you're just using it to colour, a 4X5 may be enough. A scanner is pretty handy for making a sketch or outline for a drawing and then use the tablet to colour the rest of the drawing in.

The intuous also comes with a pretty good software package. I really like the metacreations painter - although this is a really, really scaled down version of painter 6.0. Anyway, it's probably sufficient, nonetheless for aspiring artists. To be honest, it'll probably be the best $149 (CAN) you'd spend if you really enjoy drawing and do a lot of drawing. Hope this helps.

By the way, I don't work for Wacom or anything like that.

I just bought a wacom graphire and i really like it. I don't use my mouse anymore, and i'm trying to paint something in painter classic (is shipped with the graphire). But now i'm going to enjoy my holiday in Austria, so I can't use my wacom for the next 2 weeks. greets, zteph
