You have some areas that are becoming too flat. If you entention was for an over exposed feeling then you did a good job on that, if not, I would rethink all of those hot spots.
Alot of giger's work gives the viewer the impression that it could function in real life. Form and Function.
Your image seems to be frozen in carbonite, is there anyway you could add some "life" to it?
Alot of people try to imitate Giger's work thinking it's an easy thing to do, untill they try. Do not take that personally ok? I'm only stating that giger's work has a quality about it that fools people into thinking it's simple to achieve.
Sorry for getting off subject there..back to the meat grinder...
I feel that it needs more depth to it, right now it seem to flat, as if it's carved or molded.
You've got some nice details going on in certian places.
I think you should do another one of these and try to think of a subject that could drive your artwork while doing it. "does that make sense?"
Keep going at it and if you like Giger's work study his images real close, you'll be really surprised at what you find. His techniques are hidden, but when you see them you kick yourself.

this is gigerish?
errr. no.
you should use a bit sharper highlights, it'd give it a bit more sense of depth. this is a tad blurry looking because of the soft highlights. (..)
also i think it needs a wee bit more of mid level shadows. it looks flat.

There is a quality to that image that reminds me of a scan ... did you overpaint a scan? Not too accuse you, nice artwork, but it would be nice to know more about the process you followed to create the image.

I'm new so I'm not about to offer any criticism.
I'm just going to say the parts that really stand out to me are the Claw thing in the bluer portion and the nice hard edges on the metallic stuff in the upper left. |

thanks to the replys...i added the texture i used from the beginnning, to "carve" out the image, and i think ill do another one some time. It was fun to do it. I didnt put so much thought behind it as i maybe should of done, i started to play with highlights and then i started to "carve" more things...and there it is...I used alot of dodge and burn. Its an easy solution, but i think it came out ok....thanks for the comments faustgfx, samdragon, LOki, dean welsh. |

Hurri-cane looks cool! I like it a lot,
it could maybe use a bit of sharpening up tho. Great job.
