Gaah. Photoreference practice... You know, you're the most available model you'll ever find and all. Still, I hate it. The brow is too wide, the eyes too far apart, the mouth messed up. I need sleep, though, so I must give up.

Oh yeah, here's the original, not that there should be any doubt this wasn't an overpaint...

To me, a great portrait captures the subject matter... and you did this beautifully, Affected! Though some of the proportions might bother you, it is still a cool painted piece. Do more like this!!!

Although you might say all the proportions are kinda messed up (and i'm not gonna argue), I'm liking the style. It definately has a unique feel to it. It definately captures you, even though it isn't all-too realistic (but hey, whoever said that was a bad thing?!)

Affected,

I have to agree with kurisu and Totally...
nice work! The painting is you! Photo-realism is cool, but then again you
could just take a photo I like the
way you captured your look and attitude
at that moment!

Affected,
It looks just fine for a sketch. You look a little like Justin Hall, I think.

My only crit would be that the highlights don't look in line with the light.

But it's great nonetheless.

veery nice affected. Just comparison to your last portraits from like the speeed thread for example, there's a huge improvement on both proportions and shading.
impressive...I love it !

comments: could be some proportion flaws, also the shading around the mouth kind of get a bit of the feeling that the lips are not attached to the face. The same with the ear, if you see on the photo, there's some small details inside the shadow area between your ear and cheek, I think you should include those.

Anyway, nice work !

Affected, both of your pics look very, very cool. I love that painted style your getting. I don't really have any critisism.
The proportions may be off slightly but I don't think thats whats important here. Just keep working on that style. It's looking excellent.

There's not much to explain - it's basically like traditional painting. Just throwing colours around, if you will.

Very nice, Affected. like both of them alot.
What about removing the white areas(background) a bit or tone them down just a little cause it makes
the main thing in the pictures apear too
strong.

Can i just say something? my art teacher was saying something like this to a girl in my class, but ill try to explain in my own words. I think that these 2 pieces isnt what you just look at and say its crappy and you hate it. Maybe you're not supposed to just look at it normally? Try squinting, how all the colours come together, and the detail such as the eye size doesnt matter cause it looks real now. Just my 2 cents. BTW< both are excellent artwork to me.
