Here's another conceptual painting, any advice or input? I think this message board is great as are the people in it. Thanks in advance for the help!

Very nice! Is the (orange/pink) background sky or more buildings? Is it possible to see this in your original resolution?
Hope to see more soon.

I like the composition of this one, but the colors are very unorganized. When you do shots like this, it is a good idea to find someplace relatively close to what you are going to draw/paint, shoot some photos for color palette, and make keen observations on the lighting, what is bouncing color into what, what creates bounce light, what hue the bounce light is, etc.
Even in a dark alley, one side will be darker than the other because of one side being influenced by the sun.
I'd like to see more big shapes defined, than lots of little hot spot details cluttering the foreground, i.e. the ladder to the left. Also, good idea to organize your secondary lights for the image. Although a city street may look unorthodoxed, messy and disorganized, you don't want to emulate that in a painting. You are the art director of the shot, organize the shot accordingly. Use old movies as a great example, when directors really used the background too as an element of story drive, vs. now where directors just go out and do location shoots, not worrying about the details and whatnot that make shots work well for storytelling.
BLah blah, I could go on, but I have to go teach now. Keep posting these paintings. THey are very inspirational, and really fun to look at.... |
