Hey guys, first day on the forum here at sijun.com. Ive been a frequent visitor but never really took the time to post anytihng. But now Im sorta in a jam.
A recent project of mine is a modification for half-life. Of corse we all know that all the mods for half-life are down right NASTY looking. So myself and a few of my friends have decided to make a new mod entitled: "Laser Tag Arena".
For those of you who don't know what laser tag is. It's basicly like paintball but with lasers. Fun shtuff. Well anyway, Ive been doing alot of concepts recently, for a semi-heavy polygon laser gun, and in the end, im just depressed with the result.
This is mainly due to the fact that I have never really "designed" a weapon before.
So I was wondering if you guys/gals could help me out, and inspire me with some kick ass weapon designs that you can come up with. THey don't have to be ooo-la-la. They just have to have a good concept. and REMEMBER!!! LASER GUN not a cow launcher! Ill be posting some concepts I came up with myself. Good luck peeps!

Here is something I whipped up since I started this thread. Like I said, no inspiration. Lets see some more posts, and comments if ya could.

spiffy, you shouldnt even make a new model, the gauss rifle (i think thats its name?) is perfect..it shoots those bolts that look exactly like lasers, plus it looks and sounds cool. just modify some coding within the pak files and set its damage to 0, etc |

Hehe, actually we are currently using the guass gun. But I feel so cheep using a already made weapon, and trust me, we have some major abilities on the team.
But as you said, we modified the gauss gun code and we WILL use the gauss gun code, but we wish to replace the model. If you need more info on lasertag. Head on over to http://www.lasertag.com . They show you what kind of equipment we are looking to implement into the mod. |

the last time i ever made a mod was back in quake1, when i knew QuakeC...
i made an entire covert ops thing with new weapons and new console background (whoaaaaaaaaaaa tough stuff right :P), and new skins
half life is a great game for making mods because of all the stuff it has. i think making mods for games like quake3/unreal tourney is stupid because you cant really make those games any better in my opinion.. |

Ok, first of all, go down to the library, and get yourself a good book about guns. It's great for reference and idea's
(Some guns look so weird, they just gotta make you think of something).
Second, make the basic elements of the gun (nozzle, trigger, bullet chamber, handle, etc.). You'll have to decide what type of gun you want (handgun, rifle, shutgun,..)
Build on this, and give it cool atributes (multiple layers of metal,..), and keep the basic 'laws' of gub design in mind (so make the handle of the gun a logical size, not like the one on your current gun )

when it comes to gaming, who cares about correct proportions for guns...i tend to like the look of small hands and extremely huge barrels, looks devestating |
