i've been readin through these threads and looking at some of the art you guys have posted...and all i can say is...whoa.

i have wanted to get into digital art for a long time now but never really understood what i had to do to get started...as i'm incredibly new to this and...well...i suck.

the only computer art i've ever done was for my website back when it was html with PSP 5...and even that wasn't great...seeing as how it was the first i had ever tried to do.

and well...i guess what my point in this post is...can you guys point me in the direction of any books/programs/websites that could teach a newbie a few tricks to set me on my way?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

it might not work for all people but experience and an urge for more is the only way to get you to the top... as long as you like what yer doing, you'll always keep getting better =)

(not saying that i'm good or anything.. yet)

Gonad(gotta love that name )You should post something you've done so we can see what level you're at. If you're a complete newbie to drawing in general, then there are quite a few books mentioned in different threads that will help you tackle the basics. Loomis seems to be popular but hard to find. I'll throw in Jack Hamm as a suggestion for figure drawing. His book isn't very expensive. If you just need help with the digital art stuff then the best thing to do is familiarize yourself with the program by doing tutorials, and check out the homepages of all the talented folks who post here to see how they apply that knowledge.

Good luck!

well i don't really have anything to post here.

i've never really tried my hand at serious "art" on here.

i've been drawing for a long time...but i'm just not as good as you folks are.

like i said i've got PSP 5 and an old WACOM tablet that i don't really know how to use.

any names of books or sites or ANYTHING that would show me how to get into this would be great.

thanks again.

'nad (ballsy, very ballsy....
nyuknyuknyuk )

anyway, you probably have a scanner
and you are probably savvy enough
with web stuff to post a pic.....
Regardless, your one up on me with
a wacom!
I am just surmizing this from what
you have written. I would offer
that you should go for it! Generally,
you will get some very fair, honest,
and constructive criticism! Everybody
had to start some where! Perhaps
you can take what is being taught here,
knock out some new art and then post.
I have only posted a couple of times
and have learned a great deal from that
and the tutorials posted here.

As far as using the digital tools, you just kind of have to do it! I have only
been here a few weeks, but I am working
at getting to know my digital tools
better....sorry to barf on ya' here!

Don't let your personal feelings about
your work inhibit you from posting!
The folks on this board will see positive
things in your art that you never could
if you didn't post it (and likewise,
they will point out ways to improve that
you would have never noticed)!

Anyway, my thoughts are worth what you
paid for them (so they don't even add up
to two cents)! Take it easy and I hope
see some of your work when you get the
chance.

late, c

in my opinion books kinda suck because when you figure things out for yourself, you grow alot more familiar with the program and develop your own style, otherwise your work tends to be very uniform and repetitive because you only know 1 way of going about things...unless youre dealing with anatomy/etc and you need to learn how the human body works, or anything like that, you should try to discover things on your own.
