I know a thread about hair has already been posted, but I'm needing help on curly hair. I just can't seem to get it right. Sorry, I can't post a scan of the sketch.

By the way, Joachim - that's a wonderful image. GROSS - but great gesture and life to it. I love it! (did you use photo reference????)
As far as curly hair, Transcendence, I seem to remember somebody doing a great painting of a child... who was that?! A curly-haired child... I'll check and see if I can track that person down...
CapnPyro - yeah, me too

Hehe, you crack me up Kurisu. Great gif anims.
No, no photo reference used on that curly hair. Just plain photoshop to the bone. I've probably used every part within the program to give that effect, so I can imagine that it can be hard to believe...but's it's just practise, practise, no more.

it's easier to draw something that's already been drawn. So look for some artwork that has images of curly hair and try to develop your own way. There is no "secret" to drawing curly hair or hair at all. I would suggest that you dont try to draw each strand of hair, instead try to give the illusion of hair.
Great gif anims guys, funny stuff ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

Hey Kurisu, what exactly is that first pic?
I remember that curly-haired pic too... Was it by Hennifer maybe?

Tinusch - What is that first pic? Look I so old to you... (hint: synj) And you posted a very nice hair tutorial, remember?!
http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000923.html
synj - u r a jean yes i lub u 2
surphun - That's hairy sausage to you, Mr.
Joachim - Thanks, buddy Come on man - who are you trying to fool? How about posting the steps you used to do that pic? It's one thing to look at a photo, and another to steal it! That has got to be one of the most blatant rips of Dr. Ruth's buttocks I have ever laid my eyes on!
samdragon - gracias mi amigo
Transcendence - This was all just light fun... besides - it keeps this thread at the top! As far as the curly hair - I searched on this forum - literally for 30 minutes, looking for stuff... way back to '99 (that's so last century...) There are just too many posts and this UBB doesn't have a good way to isolate search criteria - in my opinion, anyway. I took a stab at doing curly hair, but kept getting distracted. I'll post a detailed view of the pic so you can see it (I'm no painter iron man, so don't get your hopes up). The zoomed out view just gives an idea of what it looks like scaled. That could be a technique - do it big, then shrink it and touch up... (but do see Tinusch's thread above, it's simple but effective)...
The detailed view (shah - not really)...
...and then the zoomed out version...
Hope even a smidget of this helps in some way - maybe to just bring a smile to your face

here's that portrait of my 2nd cousin that i think you're referring to.
as far as curly hair, there's not too much to analyze. i just took a quick look at her and drew what i saw... the hair itself is just a bunch of curly scribbles, but somehow it works.

Kurisu: HAHAHAHAHA, I laughed out loud when I first saw that guy swining across the hair... |

hennifer - I LOVE that image! It's so rich and full of life!
Tinusch - hehhehehehhe me 2 I wanted it to be 'serious with a hint of wutdafuk in it.'
Transcendence - it's all good buddy I can understand why this silliness would grate on the nerves in light of a stressful need for assistance. I really did try to find some good tips on doing curly hair, but everything I saw was 'eh' - as in not the best I thought I could find. Of course, I hardly looked at everything, but about 10 threads and followed links to sites with tutorials. Nothing really 'spoke' to me besides Tinusch's tut thread and hennifer's image.
When you say 'doing it in pen' do you mean that you're planning on scanning the sketch and then painting it digitally? I'm not sure I understand.
Anybody have any other help for curly?
-kurisu
(I used photo reference for this. Okay I COPIED IT! I STOLE IT! I MUST RUN BEFORE THEY FIND ME! Actually, I grabbed it from here. If you're interested there's more wacky stooge stuff there... heh heh) |

As for the sketch - I draw a lot of stuff in pen..just 1 of those preference things. As for the scanner, I don't have a scanner...or else I'd have some of my stuff on here for critique. Yeah, I've been searching the net for a tutorial on doing curly hair. I've basically decided that I'll just have to mess with shadows and crap for it to work. |

kurisu: i know, but I'm vaguely stressed out about it and it wasn't helping the situation. I also missed a couple things people said so I kinda feel bad about being sarcastic to you all.
thanks for the all help - my problem is mainly due to my doing it in pen. |
