Thanks for the comments galaxal

As you might have noticed it's not quite finished, its actuialy full length but the bottom half wasnt ready so I cropped it.

I just had to post the damn thing I've been working on it all night (It's 8am in Australia and I havent slept yet) and I wanted some other people to see it because after a while you just can't tell what the hell your looking at.

I am quite happy with my effort to post (I had to find someplace to host the image and then make a webpage all in the space of a couple of hours)..... just realised that I'm rammbling.... must be the lack of sleep....

I think I'll go to bed now:)

nice sketch...STAP inspired? I definitely see Phantom Menace here. Not a bad thing. Just a source of inspiration, and that is something we always need as artists and designers.
My crit is that all the greeblies in his under carriage are too bright, almost like they are self luminant. You should lose the value intensity in some of the areas into the shadows. They stand out too much. Need to be a part of the whole. Great quick indications. I like this much more than hammering everything out in solid detail. Nice job to the new kid on the block...

Nice work Rinaldo. =) Welcome.

Yeah, the things Fred pointed out about the lighting is what really strikes me at first, the shadows don't seem to be affecting the smaller intricate objects under the shell. The green on the chrome weapon or stem should probably be less apparent -- if it's a reflection of the gree carcass, then there should be none from this angle.

Good work! Can't wait to see a more advanced version. =]

I really like this painting Rinaldo! The speed in which you rendered most of it brings out a lot of life in the image. The colors are great and the loose brush strokes look groovy!

I agree with the shadow/lighting issues mentioned. The brightness catches and holds my attention (although, as the picture was loading, and I was marveling at, I didn't notice it at first - until the image loaded fully :P).

The way the shoulder pad is painted leads me to expect that the upper arm disc should be fully shaded (also the staff he's holding casts light towards the us and to the left - which makes me further think shadows would be cast more on the side we see).

I am also anxious to see the next version - great job Rinaldo!

Thasks for the comments people

I understand about the luminosity of the greeblies? (whats a greeblie).
the problem with this pic is that it's baisicaly my first try at using the computer for art in such a detailed way. So some parts are from when I was starting and thus a bit unthoughtful. the blue tube in the undercarage is supposed to be a "power core" of sorts and thus gives out its own light. the red wires are a bit the same.

when I put in the blue tube I was worried that it would ruin the composition and attract to much attention, so I'll have to do something about it.

kurisu- I think your right, the sholder pad should be in shaddow. The problem is that most of the lighting is contrived anyway so its hard to say what would happen.
This is one of my few attempts so far to depict mechanical objects. I usuialy go for organic.

Fred- No its not PM inspired Its a character design I've had in my sketch book for a while now. I'ts inspired by a robot I saw in an old 90's comic called Twilight. The artist was Jose luis garcia lopez (he did some Atari Force and othe sci-fi stuf)
there was some great Sci-fi fantasy done back then.... most of it seems a bit soft today.

I will endevour to finish this pic and incorporate some of your suggestions.
