hey guys i just finished this pic. its called Urban Life, i wanted to get a 'hardcore gangster thug' feel to it, but i dunno. it was originally *huge* but i shrunk it down to fit on this forum. tell me what u think.

Hey Frobnicate, photography can be an artform too. But I bet if you took the extra time to make this a digital painting it would make a very cool pic. You know what I mean...don't you?

And why such angry subject matter? I think the point of this picture is a bit shallow and I'd like to see your talent used in more constructive ways unless, of course, this is just "who you are". In which case I guess that is okay with people around here...depending on "who" you are that is.

No way. No way. That is NOT a painting. That couldn't possibly look any more like a photograph. Danny, Shane, and Mullins combined would have a hard time producing something that realistic. And we're expected to believe that this newcomer to the forum, who has posted only 4 messages, shown us NO artwork in the past, and has no website to display his work has painted something that is completely photo-realistic? Dude, if you made that, you would be one of the most famous artists in the digital art community.

It's a joke. Frobnicate was joking. He didn't paint it and he probably suspected people would know he was joking. I thought people would know he was joking when I first saw the picture...

I don't see how people could take this serious. It really seems strange that people would attack a new comer to the forum and wouldn't give him a chance. It is a photo and a joke. It's like the Jay Leno bit about Iron Jay. We know he is not a body builder, but we allow the suspension of disbelief to be created for a laugh. Real body builders don't become enraged when they see it because they take it for what it is- a joke.

I think many have lost sight of something- it's not a competition! Everybody is out to prove everyone else as a fraud. Nearly every new piece of work from a new artist is dissected in the WRONG way- nobody cares about how the image looks or how it expresses ideas, people only care how to prove the artist as a fake. Such actions almost drove Fallen, a very talented artist, away. Who has been turned away from this forum, and possibly art in general, due to the reaction in this forum?

This is not only destructive to one another but to the art scene as well. When this place first started, everybody understood the learning process and tried to help each other. As better and better art showed up, people began to get competitive and tried to undermine the nature of the forum- to learn and to improve on one's skill. At least Fred & company have taken the steps to correct this problem with their classes.

Go back and read the responses Frobnicate got. Is he an asshole? I don't believe so. Is he really a gansta who's going to pop a cap? I don't believe so. Is he really going to someone's house to unload his 9? I don't believe so.

If your going to attack this, why not attack the giant penis/breasts pics Synj has been posting? Why not attack the pic that Kyri recently posted of a knife weilding (sp) girl? Why not attack micke and his often violent black and white images?

If anything, those should be more likely to spark insults then this gansta pic- they had to come up with the violent/"differant" images from their own minds. (Don't get me wrong, I like those works, but they are ones that I was looking at when I came upon this thread )

People just need to stop taking things so seriously. If you attacked Frobnicate for pretending to paint that picture, please examine the attitude that you apply to this forum. This should be a place without insults and without rejecting people- this should be a learning and open enviroment.

At least thats how it started.

synj; what does it matter if he traces? i plan on tracing my first couple of tablet paintings that i do. why would i plan that? i dont really care about proportion right now, i just want to learn how to use the damn thing, just say fallen's picture is painted on top of the actual photograph, i still think he has a good sense of blending and shading, especially the way the hair looks, i mean look at it fer god sakes. naturally after i develope my skills to a point where im comfortable ill do my own original work but i see nothing wrong with tracing so long as you dont intentionally mislead people, doncha know? btw when asked if he was traced or why the proportion was messed up he admited he traced it from a sketch, there ya go.. he wasnt bein misleadin
