Hi. I finally did it! My brain functioned enough to get over this block.
HIGH QUALITY: http://www.synj.net/files/koy2-320x240.zip
LOW QUALITY: http://www.synj.net/files/koy2-160x120.zip
to see some screenshots or the listing of my other animations, click this link: http://www.synj.net/anim.htm
Anyway, no its still not done (about 50% though). It's about 27 seconds or so and if you saw it before you wont be incredibly amazed since there's only about 7 to 10 more seconds of footage i believe.
What I'm happy about in this animation is the fact that now I have 'tagged' the orangeyfat that keeps getting away. now the storyline is a bit stronger.
*side note; I update the above urls with replaced zips every time I get more footage, so you might actually see something more than the previous person.

i use lightwave 3D for all my avis and stuff. and i use adobe premiere to put the avis to the sound and music tracks. That's odd, i could swear I've answered that question like 4 times now heeh

great animation synj
i've work a little with LW3d and animation.. and you have a really good sense for motion.. from characters motion, to physics and how things should move. good ability to have as an animator
do you use IK for your characters? |

How long does it take you to make something like that? |

hey! alot of new faces - at least for me. thanks for your critiques!
it varies how long it takes me, honestly. If I have the characters built and the story set in my mind, about 2-4 weeks to finish a 45 second animation. If I have animator's block.. 1-2 months. yuck heheh
how i animate my characters is going a bit too far into things. I like to keep my techqniques a secret so they are not cc'd. sorry about that :/

This is the first animation I've seen of yours, and...it's great! I was totally absorbed by the animation and storytelling.

Great work Synj!
Fantastic physics knowledge! Really funny- LOVE the sound fx!! =)
I had a shot at 3D for a couple of years a while ago- check out this 60 second animation I did using Infini-D 3.5.
Wanted to learn FormZ and Lightwave etc, but they were far to complicated for me at that age. Should try again one day!

Synj: Watched it yesterday. Very good -- I love how the orangey fat is overly stupid and somewhat numb-mindedly keeps tripping over the cars... adds a hell of a lot of character! Congrats! |

fragamite, you're not the only one who can't get a decent connection to synj's server - I'm on a cable modem, but I get something like 0.6 k/s when downloading, and then it always gets cut at around 30-40% through.
So yes, synj really should get a mirrorsite... and maybe get rid of his current webhost for good... I really want to watch his stuff too damnit

thanks a lot eetu!
Yep, that orangeyfat guy really is adorable I'll have to remember to download the rest of your anims somewhere with quality lines.
But synj, there's something fishy about the video codec you're using. The filesize is huge (over 15 megs for 27 secs!) and still there's lots of pixellation and other artifacts. I tried recompressing the clip to Indeo 5 (AVI) and Sorenson (Quicktime), and got the filesize down to well below 5 megs with good video quality (as good as you can expect it to look recompressed, that is).
So maybe you could try Indeo 5 for your next anim? (the codec is a free download on Intel's site in case you don't have it)

!
thanks hehe. I guess those extra 15 minutes spent on each action really DO have some of an impact. it's really good to hear about the physics being alright, since all it is is an illusion done by hand. sometimes the objects can really piss me off hehehe
joachim: i can't spoil the fun!
binke, nice work i scrolled down and did a double take for a sec like "did i do that?"
thanks for the mirror eetu. very kind
indeo 5 eh? never heard of it. I'll give it a shot.. I am on a modem so uploading these files is NOT fun when I update often.
micke - sure thing!

Hey Synj,
You said you use lightwave for your animations, what if any plugin do you use to make them cartoon illustrated looking?.
I had thought you had done the animations with 3d studio max and the illustrate plugin which i think is used for Futurama's cartoonish 3d.

Sorry if this is barging in, Mr. AnimatorPro (synj),
but DrawingBook, to answer your question, lightwave has a rendering option called "Cel Shader." What this does is outlines objects in black, and gives it a cel-based look. Also, if the correct lighting is used (usually 3-4 with high intensity in major areas) an extremely cartoonish look can be made, where there is barely any distinction between true cel animations and the 3d-based ones; a look that synj's animations often have.
(There is also a plugin that can be used [I forgot the name] which can create even more advanced cel shading looks, such as anime-type shading.)

Hm, Lightwave is kewl. But I prefer MAX 3. More superior animation capability, more interactivity, more ease of use than LW 5.6
Nice animation anyway, Synj ! |
