ok gonna get some zzz now, this is how far i got ?
any pointers/critique ?
i have no idea how to do anything that would look like any material, everytime i try to do something with a <10 brush all i get is jumble. anyone have any advice on how to approach learning 'pixel-level' editing ? or is it just another case of "stick at it and you'll get one day" ?

Peoples opinions will vary. I hope someone else adds theres. Observation ! yes observe life not what you know to be there but what the eye sees. make observation apart of your day. Look at everything study life when you can't draw. Also down load a few pictures and do a color study on them. Use the ink droper tool to save swatches from the pics you study. you will find that. not everything that looks black is true black etc. This will help you get a feel for color and texture. Hope it helps Notice how her clock is not turned with her try not to think of them as two differnt objects. The clock is but an extention of her if she turns it will too. |

Eetu: If anything, I'd suggest you to forget pixel editing. It is good to know, but there are more important things to learn than that. I've done pixel drawings for many years, and I can only tell you that it did me no good overall, except learn how antialising, etc really works, which you don't need to know about anymore with the new paint programs available. Just concentrate on painting... =)
my humble 2 cents.

i have found that working from big masses to smaller details suits me very well. i think spooge has a tutorial about it -> www.goodbrush.com
something that i have also found useful is that i can blend colors on the "canvas" with aid of the eyedropper tool. at least in painter this works nicely. |
