First of all Thanks for all the great tips you've given and the new tutorial...it's slammin'!!!..
I have the Stephen Peck anatomy book.... could you give me any suggestion on how to use it to study....and....I've been trying to locate the Loomis books, but anytime I find one they want $100+ for it.....is it worth it?, and do you have any alternate suggetions that are along the same lines as those books. I don't mind paying the money ,but it's hard to pull the trigger if you don't see the target in front of you...meaning if I had a chance to look through it...but you having seen them already would be better able to tell me if his books are worth paying that much for or waiting to find them cheaper....once again thanks!! |

ozenzo, fire away...fire away...is more worthy than any other book you will find. I spent a total of, well, you add it up.
Loomis-Successful Drawing $175
Loomis-Figure Drawing for All it's Worth $250
Loomis-Creative Illustration-$250
Loomis-Fun with the Pencil-$100
Loomis Head and Hands-$125
You will never find another book as good as a loomis book. There just aren't any teachers out there that teach the way he did. No other books since these books have been written equal the knowledge that loomis had. Anyway I will help you with the peck book, but it will take a little thinking about. Email me at work, and we can go over what you can do with the book, and get Loomis, he's worthy... |

The figure drawing book then the head drawing for information. Otherwise, if it is just a book on basics you are looking for, successful drawing is where its at. Covers alot of the basics...good luck with the hunt, might try bud plant used books, a different division of bud plant... |

Wow.. thats more than I've ever paid for any one book. And I have quite a collection of art technique books. Are they collectors items? Even if hes the best of the best, don't you think thats a bit steep for a book?

to tell you the truth, for a few of them, yes it was. I xeroxed three of them off and turned around and sold them for more. They are absolutely rare, and I do appreciate the fact that I hunted them down for quite a long time, found them, but had to pay. It was worth it to me. I found something I was told would be impossible to find, and when I read them, they were worth more than I paid.
But to be honest, I spend most all my money on books. So I never really regret paying a little more for something worthy. I have a library of reference I am proud to have accumulated, money is no object in terms of getting better at what I do. I will find a way to make the money to get to the next level, etc.
All in all, it was a lot of money, but to know what I know now, wow it was worth it... |
