Well, as you all might know, Painter can pull of a nice pencil drawing effect (ofcourse if used with tablet)
I tried to do something simmilar to that in Photoshop with a mouse but.......

.... it turned like shit imo.
What do you think about the effect (somekinda paper texture would help)? Don't look at the drawing, since its a piece of crap.

Ok, so we now know that we shouldn't use computer for sketching (gosh, what was I thinking)
Thanks for helping out

Oh, btw, it was supposed to look like somekinda goblin head, but.....ah nevermind.

I use the computer for sketching! But they are some very ugly and vague 2-min sketches, I only use them as painting guides anyway... so I guess that doesn't count

Hey DerPunkt,
When the fork wll you buy yourself a tablet. If you can't afford it...go collect bottles for one night and I'm sure you have enough for a graphire. It's not that expensive.
And, why the fork didn't you compete in the 3dpalette compo ??

It looks like a technique called"lavering"
in Norwegian wich is mixing ink with water
and paint loosely over a sketch.
Damn! I don't know the term for it in
english.

It comes from the french word 'laver', meaning 'to wash'. (That was today's bit of trivia)

En franais on dit "au lavis". C'est l'expression qu'on prenait dans notre cours d'arts. Enfin, c'est une technique hot, mais j'aime plus le pinceau de Photoshop

Qu'est-ce que Affected dit est vrai aussi!

Well, I love doing sketchy pics in photoshop. Like the pic shown here I work mostly with a single sized brush with no pressure and then I just draw like a maniac. Switching between forground color and baground color for drawing/erasing. I just love that spontanious way of photoshopping...heh!

I have tried to work like that in Painter but had no luck getting that spontanious feeling into my pics. I guess it's because of the funky GUI of painter..

btw. the pic is not finished yet...

Hehe, that was a nice 'Fork!' Saffron. =)

I always sketch on computer directly -- I guess that's because I don't have a scanner. Whatever I sketch on paper forever remains on paper.

DP: I can't beleive you STILL don't have a tablet after all this time talking about it! Move your ass! You got a job now! (I find the sketch looks cool btw, I saw the goblin-ish face right away).

Be the fork... and may the fork be with you.

Boom: Cool sketch -- reminds me of some FAKK2 concept sketches by Bisley!

Joachim: What was that "..you forgot your underwear at Oslo central station.." in Outside all about? =))

I find that I can draw in photoshop and with a mouse much better than I can on paper. It use to be the reverse, and I thought at first its great to be able to sketch well with a mouse. Now that I think about it, I cant draw worth a diddily when I'm bored and in someplace without a computer, heh. This sux.

thanks guys... I didn't mean to break in on DP's thread though.Sorry DP!

I will post it in a new thread when I finish it..

By the way, I agree with Micke. D-Punkts drawing looks very much like a lavering (which its also called in danish...heh!)

....And get that tablet DP! NOW!

Dunno why am I bringing this topic on top, but I guess I have to answer a couple of questions. okie =)

BTW, micke, yeah laver-ish thing it is, here in Croatia we call it "LAVIR-ani tus" uhm, lavered ink. Yeah, mixing ink with water for middle tone values (Altho we are not alowed to use that in drawing classes - B/W only)

Tablet - as you "might" know, I hate small tablets - very unprecise (atleast the one I have) and mouse works better for me. The one I want is A4, coz my hand is used on working on large area - I like having free strokes/lines - today I'll post a topic with some sketches, so you'll know what I mean. Anyways, that tablet is around 3500kn which is somewhere around 1000DM - and a standard paycheck here, doesn't go higher than 700DM.

3DP - I didn't have the time to finish my picture (shame on me I had a whole month) bcoz I am hard at work preparing for my 1st exhibition.

Boomstick - my whole idea of this experiment is to get a "PENCIL" feel of it, I was trying to avoid B/W. Doing stuff with B/W is ok in PShop, I like it, its fast, crispy clean, but still not the thing I was looking for. And, no, I don't mind =))

So, all I can conclude is....I wish tablet would impress me more. I haven't tried that A4, I think that thing would fulfill my needs. The style I am pushing forward, imo, can only be done with mouse, bcoz, I think, it still has roots in oldschool. Dunno =)

take care - till I get home and post those drawings
