Hi, gang! g:tech here...

In my short time here, I've posted mainly action-based, comic-like pics. Nothing terribly serious or personal. This will be my first personal image Here's a bit of my background for those that don't mind reading it (it will explain the pic a bit more):

I've recently gone through a very difficult breakup with my now ex-girlfriend. We went out for 4 years. I'm now almost 22 years old and am seeing the world through new eyes after taking this breakup very hard. I realize that this relationship wasn't meant to be and that we were holding each other back. I'm glad to say that I've now fully recovered, have moved on, and with any luck, I'll have a new girlfriend soon

Taking the advice of my therapist (ugh, is there anyone today who doesn't need one??? ), I began expressing myself through art. Here is my first contribution to my recovery. The words in the image are from a Jon Secada song (slightly modified for my needs) and really helped me get through the rough times and to see the world in a more healthy, happy view. Anytime I was feeling bad, I'd think of these words and realize that I'm in control of my own life and to be happy for what I have. I'm posting this pic as help for anyone going through a rough time or for a smile for someone currently experiencing happy times. It really helped me feel better. Hopefully it can help other people too.

Anyway, enough of the serious gab. Here's my pic. I really tried to create a happy, contented feeling, and to convey the euphoria of "freedom". I hope you guys like it. I don't usually do personal stuff too much...

Enjoy

cool! I like the picture and the combination of vocals-text and picture. I did some of those (not as clean as yours though) too but I never thought about showing them to others.

I really like it.

Binke, thank you. I enjoy drawing in this style. I appreciate the compliment.

Nex, I would like to see your stuff. This is a kinda personal thread, so what better time to show personal stuff?

That goes for everyone else, too!

I hate to ask a question about construction on a "personal" thread, but when drawing the lines, are they quick and spontaneous or slow and precise? I've always wanted to draw like this but don't know the best way to go about it.

I really like the picture by the way. I can almost feel the breeze and smell the crispy air.

I like it very much, very reminiscent of Jamie Helett's work. Oh, and congrats on your road to recovery.

I love the feeling of this pic also...
I think some of the best work is done when strong feelings are involved, whether it be happiness, sadness or anger... maybe that is just a given, but I know my personal experience, those are pic's that still have the most meaning for me years later....

Keep smiling... makes people wonder what you are up to

Morganic: Well I don't need one NOW... poontang!

cecil: don't worry about asking about the construction... I'm happy to help! The way that *I* personally do my sketches is to draw them out by hand on paper using my normal technique. Then I scan it. Then I adjust the brightness/contrast in Photoshop until all the lighter, whispy lines are gone. I place all the colors on separate layers underneath the outline layer (which is set to "multiply"), and after all the colors are in place, I take a small, fine, hard paintbrush in Photoshop, set it to black, and trace over the jagged lines. I use the eraser to clean up, too. Not too time consuming, really, even though it may sound like it.

I know it's not a really technically intense art form like spooge and freddy can do, with all the crazy light-sourcing, shadows, values, etc... but it's mine. And I enjoy doing it! I like the simplicity

g:tech : you asked for it.. here is some of my personal stuff:

These pictures are a totally different style and have a different topic. However they have the same "idea" as basis - text and picture.

Both of them have a very personal meaning to me.. the first one is I think easier to understand than the second one.

This second image was already posted some time ago.

Both of those pics are old, and maybe not very nice to the eye.. but thats not what makes them up.

Or at least thats my excuse

[Copyrights on the first picture go to numerous photographers whose pictures I used in this collage and to the person who first came up with that inspiring line]

Nex:

Thanks for showing your stuff. I really like the first image. Great colors and mood... the words are very meaningful. Gives you that "don't lose hope" feeling. Little phrases like that are great for when you're feeling down and help you set your mind straight!

Cool stuff, Nex!

g-tech, I really like this image. Everything about it reads clean, simple, powerful. The leaves are a nice contrast with all their twisting and turning they seem to portray.

Nex, I dig these pieces. The first one is really powerful. The imagery, the colors, and the words. They all tie together very well.

I like the letterboxing.

I'm wearing black French knickers under my suit. I've got stockings and suspenders on. I'm feeling rather loose.
