just clearing out some backlogged crap...I get the feeling nobody's gonna like these.
here are the pix and my comments...
just some thing...yes it has a drop shadow, sorry. it looks rather odd without it, and the shadow was the easy way out...this also exists in a very flat, straight black lines on white background version that I really prefer, but I can't find it.
yay! one of my favorite cartoony things...
started out as kind of an experiment in photoshop collage techniques, creative scanning, mixture of photography, 2d and 3d stuff. ended up being the basis for my website...
blah.
umm...i'm getting this feeling again like the only thing that can be appreciated here is photo-(sur)realistic photoshop painted character art. this makes me a little reluctant to post anything since my favorite stuff that I do is generally very 2 dimensional, pretty sloppy, and does not require a whole lot of technical drawing ability. not to say that I have no technical chops, but i am definitely not a painter, and i tend to be a little embarrassed when I try.
if I had to name my favorite artists, they would include bigdaddy roth, savage pencil, and winston smith, as well as several others who fall a little further from my style...i've noticed a couple of people pushing the style barriers here (synj comes to mind), but I still feel sort of outnumbered. so, to cut my rant short, am I wasting my time and yours by posting stuff here?
don't mean to sound confrontational or anything, just curious if anybody is actually interested in seeing anything like, for instance #2 above.

I'm with ya there. It seems there is a whole world of digital art out there that much of this place seems to be missing. Or maybe they think it's too prevalent and this place is refuge for "true" art.
It's just the way it developed I guess; folk came because of Dhabih (a refined computer version of a comic book portrait artist {that's meant to be complimentary}) and Craig's stuff is hard to ignore so there's much leaning to photorealism and its history.
I pray that the rest won't get ignored because of that. Keep posting, I'll keep clicking |

Yes, you keep posting and I'll keep looking. I really like digital collage, so I'm interested in anything anyone has to say or show on the topic. Do you know of any websites that have tips or tutorials or a cool gallery that features collage style pieces?

Don't be reluctant to post anything. If it is stylized art that you like, then do it, and love it. There are too many ways to interperet something for everyone to jump on the realism bandwagon. Learning the basics help everyone and everything. Take Disney for example, they have produced many cartoons in many styles, but tradition holds each one together. I love big daddy roth, Robert Williams, Rick Kozack, I know I spelled his name wrong, Rick Griffin, Mouse, Dali, etc. These guys are usually more admired than most because of their ability to push the envelope, not stay within the lines, etc. I think what has been happening lately chat wise is that there is a big push to get people to learn the basics in art, because there seems to be a very big lack of it. And with the rise of computer art, there seems to be more people thinking that the computer is the artist, and the person just has to push the buttons to become an instant picasso.
I like the images you posted. The very first one looks like an logo I did for lamar snowboards a few years ago...
Jet-poop, post the funky art, it's good for you and for us too see...
Have fun with it and don't let others sway the way you feel about what you like. You only need to please yourself in this big ole rat race... |

I agree totally with you guys, regardless of the fact that my work may fall into the categories mentioned by muzman. However, one thing that all the members need to know aside from technique on how to draw is that art comes in all forms and you have to be open to those variations cause you never know where you can find a lesson in that piece that may even help you with your own stuff. We can't shut the doors to others' creativities cause if there was only one type of art being produced .....I hate to say it but the world would be pretty boring.
Does anyone agree????

I can only speak for myself, but I'm interested in seeing all kinds of art and design work here. I've noticed too that photorealism and that rather technical "American" illustration tradition (I'm calling it American just because I can't think of another word to describe it) have become more popular here recently, but I don't see a problem with that since there's much to learn there. And people still seem to like the other styles that are posted here (comics, less technical fantasy, etc.)
Personally though, I'd enjoy seeing more modernist-influenced digital stuff, abstract or figurative... But I understand that most people here are more geared towards illustration and other commercial art. And besides modernism (figurative, at least) is rather out in the "real" art world nowadays anyway, so maybe I'm just oldfashioned
