Ok. I think that robots are very cliche, and i tend to stay away form them...but this one is so cool that i am going to work on it. It will be my first attempt so i am hoping it will come out good.
I am a bit stuck on a BG to put in with it....any comments?
Any commnents on the drawing as a whole? thanks. |

I love when things are out of their elements. So I was thinking I could really picture the robot in a dark swamp. This in part because the feet are faded on the bottom.
...Some very limited outside lighting would look good in the swamp. Have the main lights coming from the robot, maybe his interior somehow.
...After you've done some work post it I'd really like to see the progress.
I agree that robots have been done to death but thats part of why i mentioned the swamp because most robots have a futuristic background.
Thats all I'll say for now. you know what your doing though. The piece will be great I know.

Wouldn't the swamp rust the robot out?
But seriously... very interesting robot-guy. I especially like the hands/clamps. I'm a sucker for robots with great big useful clamps. So good for choking unsuspecting humanoids!
Maybe instead of a swamp (not that it's a bad idea), the 'feeling' of a swamp could be given to an industrial setting. You know, will-o-the-wisp flashes of sparks, massive overhanging clumps of wiring, smoke from the big machine that the robot just smashed its way out of... that kind of thing.
As so many of the members point out, remember to draw the setting with the main figure as you go. It will save you a lot of redrawing later!
Good work!

Wait wait wait...
A mixture of an industrial setting and swamp:
-some sort of "forgotton" alien (factory) spaceship which is forgotton for thousands of years...
All sort of different swamp grass and stuff will grow out of the machinery and "greeblies"...
And this robot awaked from his "shock" after all that years. Maybe you can draw some swampy mess on the robot...

awwwwww...still have to learn a lot,

I am 19.
Thanks for all the comments, everything has been very worthwhile....i have already begun work on the bg. I wish i could have drawn a background with the original figure, but i just pulled this out a sketchbook from last year. I never though i would have done anything with it, i started out as just a couple of scribbles that looked cool.
After much delberation i am going to put all your ideas togeather and make something cool.
I have another work in progress that is a finished colored pencil, and ink piece....but i had the idea to remake it the other day on my puter. it is different...and one of my favorite "oddball" pieces. I will post that pic and more info about it later. My web site should be up in month or so too....(TOO MUCH STUFF TODO!!!! AAAHHHGGG) haha. yeah
