Here's my first pic on the forums. I've
worked a couple nights on it so far... still far from finished, but I'd like some feedback: critical, good, bad, whatever. Thanx.

Like I said, it's still early in the works (hair, lighting, scene, etc.)

What is it supost to be? - looks liek a warped version of a gasmask or somet

Anwyas.. looks neat, nice detail on the human.

The tatoo looks wrong perspective, and as if it shoudlnt be there at all. - try blending that in some more, or removing it completly..

Cant wait to see this complete.

good work otherwise

my first impression was " that person sure is relaxed to have something like that attached to their face"
Great skin tones.

Maybe they are friends?

The hair actually looks cool as does the skin tones and the organic fleshy nature of... whatever, that thing on his face is. I agree that the tattoo looks a little off. Needs to be blended and if you look at most single coloured tattoos, they're usually that odd blue not black (me being picky here...)

Very cool though...

Just wanted to thank you guys for the comments. Much appreciated.
Zor: the "thing" on her face is kind of like
an organic breathing apparatus, but also a parasite. It's not meant to be that directly though. It's more of a metaphor than anything. It has a direct meaning to me about people in general being desensitized be their own device, though it is a little more personal than that. If all it means to you (you all) is "a chick with some thing on her face" then that's cool too. I like my work to be like a song.. hidden meaning, but interpreted by others in their own way that they see fit.

Here's what stage 2 looks like (still unfinished):

Comments welcome.

Looks really cool Eclypse,

I like how you've coloured and shaded it. The details on the creature and the girl are really very good.

A few things tho, the way the neck connects to the body looks a bit odd, and I agree with Hurri-cane the shoulders are not defined very well and her back comes out too much.

Also I think there would be more shadow cast on the girls face from the critter. Nice touch the way the little claws are creeping into the girls flesh...
Yeah I know I'm sick but I like those little details... ;P

Anyway, great first post, looking forward to seeing it finnished.

I'm gonna post a quick sketch of your pic to try and illustrate what I mean about the neck, I hope you don't mind.

Kyri

WOW! I can see some really good stuff coming along! I think the tubular parasite would look more realistic if it's kinda embedded in the face instead of beveled.
Draw like... tiny bloodvessels extending from the tube. That'll be really cool.
Keep going! And pls post the final pic when you are done.

Thanx again for the input people, its really helping my view of the picture.

eclipse: I've used this handle for a few years.

Kyri and Hurri-cane: Thanx. Points noted.

Trance-R: Just wait til it's finished =)

Plop: This one's for you, buddy.

Created a year or so ago. Is disturbing necessarily a bad thing?

I hate seeing pics of women getting mutilated, beaten, and/or shredded... Oh well, I guess from a technical standpoint that pic is really good. The hair especially. It looks great. The background, too, is awesome. I love how you blurred it to give the image more depth. You definitely succeeded in that area. Nice job, even though the subject is kind of sick...

The second image (the robot dude) looks really cool. The textures and lighting are great.

i think that the tonal gradient on the forhead works well, try and keep that shading method consistant throughout the image. it seems that the skin on her face is a diff color then the skin on her forehead, which is ALSO a diff color then the skin on her neck...maybe a pass over with your brush set to 'color' mode would fix that?

the diffused background is wonderful, excellent job there, gives the painting depth and separation...

the the area right below the 'sucker' guy, where the lips are seems VERY confusing to me, i cant distinguish the lips from the scars and the shadows, it almost looks like her face is reflective.,...i would redo that area, is it just me? does anyone else get confused with that area?

i like the highlights in the hair, and the fact u drew hair shapes, not hair strands...something i have to figure out myself, u seem to have figured it out very well good job. i cnat wait to see where u take this.

Eclypse, Hi, the image is cool, I have a few comments if you want to hear them.
First, the breathing apparatus should really be closer wrapped around the mouth. The greebly side of this is cool. Or the details in the mechanism. But, the idea is a breathing apparatus, and it looks like she has to do the work to breath. She lookhs like shes sucking on a straw. In the concept side of it, the apparatus should cover more of the muzzle area of the face, or, around the laugh lines on either side of the mouth, and attach somewhere around the pit of the chin. Half way between the lip andthebottom of the chin. Then the concept of the prop would be believeable. It still looks like she should be panicky because the concept isn't quite clear without written explanation. If you have to explain it to someone(what the concept is, and with any prop) it needs more concepting, or fleshing out...but the design is cool, and the tought behind it is as well...
As for the face, the chin is attaching to the skull too high. It attaches to the base of the ear, on the same plane you have it now, but at the base of the ear, just under the ear lobe. I will get that head tutorial up very soon and hopefully this will be very clear. I am not at my computer at work, or I would do a quick tracing. Maybe tomorrow...
The left shoulder needs more definition at the top where the arm overlaps the chest. Right now its all too soft, it all disappears into mush if you squint your eyes which is the true test of form, it's traditional. And please remove the bump on her back, it makes her look anemic, and its kinda unnattractive to a beautiful girl type. Otherwise it is coming along nicely...good luck with it...

The first things i noticed were the hair and the tattoo. I think the tattoo is too flat. I would tone it back.
The hair kind of looks like it is painted strand by strand and if you look at hair it doesn't look like that. Hair strands merge together into solid masses of light and shadow.
Just my oppinion take it or leave it.
....I do think that this could be a good piece though.
Keep it up!!
ciao

Wow, great replies. That's what I've been waiting for. First off:

Cos: Thanx!

Tinusch: She's my ex... if you knew what she did to me, you would understand. Not that a drawing will ever compare to her treachery. And I am damn serious. Thanx for the comments too.

PaK-RaT: Skin tones are still being worked out, I know what you mean about that as well as with the lip area. I'll look further into it.

freddy: The apparatus, in that stage, is mainly attached through the nasal passage, and is about to be pulled toward the mouth. i wanted to leave as much of the face open as possible so one can still determine easily who she is... she's not panicking because the parasite is a part of her. It's her own spawn, so she accepts it. Like I stated somewhere above, it has personal meaning to me. Though I totally see what your saying and I appreciate the technical response. The cheek could use a nudge I s'pose. I agree about the shoulder, as I didn't quite get to that part yet. Hah, and yes, I will remove the bump =) It was one of those "I see it, but I'm too lazy to rid of it right now" sorts of things.

lotor: Points noted. Thanx.
