you have a beautiful backyard. I am stunned. This is beautiful. It reminds me of a sorolla. And the loose brushwork, don't ever throw away the brushes. And by the beautiful work you do for yourself, don't ever paint for anyone. I think it will rob the work of the sizzling sponteniety this has. Not to mention, clients hate randomness. They want everything painted photo slick. If they were smart, they'd just hire a damn photographer. And thanks for the reply. You put an end to a mystery long plaguing me...

I love this painting.....The colours are incredible and it has a fantastic looseness.
I am continuelly amazed at how you are able to capture that true essence with the colours and incredibly realistic lighting.
Fantastic!!!!

You say you're just technical? Bah! There's definitely a Craig Mullens feel to this. I love it.

Wow, lots of paint.

Question: Do you squint when you paint? I find myself squinting allot when blocking in. Seems to keep me from zoning in. Wondering if it's just me. Thanks.

Fred asked if I paint anymore, yes i do a lot, but never for clients. Never.

This is my backyard after a long rain. The original is about 20"x15". Done from life. Olive trees are really interestingto paint. They range of greyed out greens is amazing, and the shapes are very ornamental. I didn't have time to play up that aspect of them here.

Fred, yes, I was graduated from AC in 91 ( I have noticed you are not impressed with AC, neither am I at this point) so I did quite a bit of real painting before pixels, including matte work. I just got in under the wire. If I had started now, I would have been seduced by the dark side and would not have as strong a foundation as I would like. (still don't)

Yes, I use photos in a lot of my digital stuff. When I started out with it in about 95, I nor anyone else had a clue about how to paint with it. The work was basically compositing. As I learned, I painted more and more. Now, I use photos a lot more selectively, sometimes as time saver I will retouch a sky for a matte shot, but still a photo sky might have 10 different photos with a lot of painting in it. I sometimes use a photo that has been stamped around to make an unrecognizable texture to start a painting. Canson paper.

I love how the shapes let your brain fill in the rest. Look, a hammock! Good feel to it overall, and of course, great lighting once again. Almost feels like i'm there

I don't think I've ever seen a Mullins thread get so few replies...

Awesome pic, man. The colors and warm feeling to it are great.

I am completely awestruck.. lately I've rediscovered a passion for painting landscapes myself, however, mine are utter crap in comparison

I love the lighting and colours, and as Synj mentioned, it allows you to interpret as you wish. Great stuff, as usual!

yes! this image is awesome! Wonder why I didn't notice it before? where did it go!
Thank goodness for the history folder
yeah, if you squint at it, it becomes photorealistic, the lighting is outstanding as usual. Someday...when I grow up....I wanna be Craig Mulllins
