the more you draw, the quicker you will be able to draw. As long as you are learning something new and building on your skills why should it matter how long it takes?

A lot of it depends on what kind of drawing you're doing, and how realistic you're trying to make it. The more you draw, the quicker you're able to eyeball proportions and anatomy, etc. I think there's a "sweet spot" that every artist has in regards to how long it takes them to sketch, ink, or color a drawing. I usually have to make two or three(or four...) passes over a drawing(looking at it in reverse, lightboxing it,etc.) before I'm satisfied with it. Just do what feels right for you. |

Y'know... for some reason that character reminds me of a pirate. Just kind of the swashbuclking stance he's got going there. Arr me laddy, hoist up the mainsal and fetch me m'stockings!

I do not know if they are painting "gods." The main reason for that is the medium that some of the artists here use (namely photoshop). To ME, and I stress "TO ME," photoshop is not real art. It is cool and all, I will give it that much.
However, real skill is with the paintbrush, airbrush, or any other "real life" medium. I think it is cool if you actually draw the image by freehand, then scan the picture, and finally color it using a program... That is Ok. To some extent.

InvisibleNinja,
There are extrememly good artists floating around this forum.
PS IS a painting tool, like a paintbrush or airbrush. It's all about the skill of the person using the tool.
BTW, many people don't consider airbrush art to be "real" art. |

Invisyblninja;
You're defining an artist by the tools he uses? That's a rather curious stance, especially in present company.
The "real skill" is what the artist does with the tools, not the medium of expression.
There are some who don't consider game art to be real art either.

Skidvis. Time is not something you want to judge you're work by. The quality of you're work is what counts. Some of these guys posting work, and saying a quick 15 minute or whatever is a quick 15 minute at their skill level, to most of the people here that seems phenomenal. But they are pros. Their skills are sharper, they are better trained, etc. Now, what you need to do is not say, how fast can I do this, but how well can I do this. If the image is glaring out mistakes, and a trained eye will find them, you then need to ask yerself, how do I make this better. That is where the mileage comes in, lots and lots of it.
And for those who care at all, I will be posting a tutorial on how to draw a head, and some guides that can always bring it back around to a good image even without a model. Look for it by Friday... |

Hey again,
This is my newest image. I know, not up to par with you pros, but still, I try.
Now my question, It took me an hour to draw this and about 15 minutes of coloring. That is a WAAAYY long time compared to my usual.
What is the average time it takes you to complete an image? both pencil and cg times?
Thanks!

I think it's a little odd question..
Just do it until you feel that you reached
the wanted result.
