....the actual business.
To all you guys who have some sort of big art job, are you willing to share the advantages and disadvantages of your career?
To me, the idea of being able to have a job where I can create, design, draw and paint (or any other art related element) seems like a dream job and I wouldn't want to do anything else when I leave school. But realistically, do art jobs pay much? (I'm being very general with the term 'art jobs')
Would you be able to support a family on a job that one of you guys have? Or would your partner have to work also?
I know it is a hard and tough industry as many people have told me before, and I realise that it would be very rewarding and self-fulfilling. But is it rewarding in a realistic sense. What are your views on your careers so far? Are you doing what you want to be doing? Or are you still working your way to the top?
Well, it'd be interesting to know your opinions on your jobs, adversities, triumphs and anything else you'd like to share.

to be honest, I could be doing more. But that would mean that I would have to find more time...that is truly unrealistic, but I do what I do, as I do it. I love everything I do, I am happy, money or no. Realistically, I don't have a family to raise but I can say that yes I would be able to comfortably raise a family without her working. But I would feel weird without her working, because the girl I would be with would also have ambitions and goals.
But, I do have an ultimate destination with different fascets in my carrier, not to say that they will be end destinations. I am always learning, and with that growth comes new goals, new dreams, as long as I keep having those, I will always be selfishly content. If I can publicly produce them all the more to fuel the orgy. I am a risk taker, always have been. I have let my balls lie on the table many times, been bruised but not beaten. That is part of growth. Take those punches and come out of it with flying colors. Any less, and its just a pummelling. Mentally. The worst kind.
Drifting from the subject? Sorta, happy with what I do, hell yes, wouldn't have it any other way, raise a family with what I make? Sure, but why, or more importantly, why now? That is merely me, no offense to you families...Got milk? |

Its very rwarding, but also very demanding. - lots of the same sketches over and over agin.. gets a bit borning at times, but very pleasing when your art is seen by all and appricated..
Its the working stages of conceptial design that is a pain (ppl already in the business will know what I mean here..)
Oh and also depensing what sort of artisit you are within the company depends on the style of art obv.. - the thing I find MOST anyoingly difficult is tryint to make the same person in a sketch look the same again in another one.. man I SUCK so bad at that.. sheesh I can copy Photos etc. but my own.. no chance!!!!! go figure....I have MAX respect for storyboarder artists..amazing! |

I think a lot of it has to do with what kind of art is in demand at the time. You sound like you could be happy doing any kind of art where you put your creative side to work.
...When I got out of school last year everyone was saying that if you wanted a job right away you should go into Graphic Design. This is true there are a lot of jobs right now for graphic designers. A friend of mine makes a good living for a first year graduate. I on the other hand have not been making enough money to brag about but I have been getting a lot of enjoyable work illustrating and doing graphic design for freelance.
I don't know if your open to doing any kind of art for a career but just keep working hard and saying your prayers and you'll be ok... at least thats what I keep telling myself.
Take care and good luck
Have fun |
