Hello to the entire creative artist on this Forum,
I wanted to ask you ALL a Question, I am now drawing up to 3images a day on my off days, and maybe 1images per day. I wanted to start something here so Here goes;

I wanted to start a Daily or Weekly Drawing Class on the Forum, Everyone Post an Image based on the weeks topic or the days topic. We can view all images submitted and talk about each others images to help each other out?

Maybe turn this into a Contest? I can print out some T-Shirts =) your website URL and what not you want on it hehe.

Please give feedback.

What would be nice if "Somone" who had lots of time on there hands were to create a website, and each week have a topic. i.e "guy with Firearm" or "Spaceship" etc, then anyone who is interested can draw to that theme, then getting it shown up each week and then have the chance to have the public across the globe vote on the best one each week..or somthing....

If you want good ideas for topics without racking your brain, simply pull out a descriptive passage from a fictional book and have everyone draw from that.

The paragraph can describe a character, a mood or a setting. Just make sure that you copy the text word for word. And that you mention the Title and Author of the book. You can find a lot of e-books on the net, so it's just a matter of Cutting & Pasting.

Here's an example of a passage that I Copied and Pasted from a free e-book I got from http://www.glassbook.com/

" By this time I had finished my supper, and by my host's desire had drawn up a chair by the fire and begun to smoke a cigar which he offered me, at the same time excusing himself that he did not smoke. I had now an opportunity of observ-ing him, and found him of a very marked physiognomy.

His face was a strong a very strong aquiline, with high bridge of the thin nose and peculiarly arched nostrils; with lofty domed forehead, and hair growing scantily round the temples, but profusely elsewhere. His eyebrows were very massive, almost meeting over the nose, and with bushy hair that seemed to curl in its own profusion. The mouth, so far as I could see it under the heavy moustache, was fixed and rather cruel- looking, with peculiarly sharp white teeth; these protruded over the lips, whose remarkable ruddiness showed astonishing vitality in a man of his years. For the rest, his ears were pale and at the tops extremely pointed; the chin was broad and strong, and the cheeks firm though thin. The gen-eral effect was one of extraordinary pallor.

Hitherto I had noticed the backs of his hands as they lay on his knees in the firelight, and they had seemed rather white and fine; but seeing them now close to me, I could not but notice that they were rather coarse broad, with squat fin-gers. Strange to say, there were hairs in the centre of the palm. The nails were long and fine, and cut to a sharp point. As the Count leaned over me and his hands touched me, I could not repress a shudder. It may have been that his breath was rank, but a horrible feeling of nausea came over me, which, do what I would, I could not conceal. The Count, evidently noticing it, drew back; and with a grim sort of smile, which showed more than he had yet done his protu-berant teeth, sat himself down again on his own side of the fireplace.

The idea of taking a passage from a book is otherwise good but puts non-native English speakers at a disadvantage... Take this random sentence from the Dracula bit you posted for example:

"His face was a strong a very strong aquiline, with high bridge of the thin nose and peculiarly arched nostrils; with lofty domed forehead, and hair growing scantily round the temples, but profusely elsewhere."

There are important things about the person said here, but the language is just too obscure (IMO). It won't be much fun if you have to look up every second word in the dictionary...

Great idea, but i think we could do something in this format (here is an example)
Theme: WAR
Year: 2445 (so it will be futuristic)
Location: Spaceship
Action: Under Attack

or something like that
hehehe

Does it really need to be a contest? It's cool enough to see all the different approaches (I'm thinking of the post apocalyptic 3DPalette thing). Choosing a "winner" sort of puts a value to one person's art compared to the next one, when each of these pieces are so individual. Hope that makes sense.

Francis

I am then happy to make a website and be willing to update it everyday or 2.

I need CGI or java or what ever you need to know to make a VOTE script for the Image of the Week? Making sure that 1 person is not voteing more then 1 time! or we can do a Point Scale Voteing. from 0 to 5 points 0 being its not that good, 5 being Rock on!.

I am willing to setup a e-mail to send Images to and what it all takes.

If you like to help set up the site please do drop me a e-mail
[email protected]
one way or onther this will be done =)

Yeah cool one..

But who will be responsible each week to select the theme? and would be nice for a mail list to be setup for it (if this can be done) then we can all have our say to themse and open suggestions, can your server accept mail lists zapman?

Yea count me in when does it start ?

We do the same thing in my art class. We have weekly drawings we have to do on a set topic and at the end of the week we show all our work to each other and it gets marked by the teacher.

I think this would be nice idea what we have once in a while in #pixel.

We have 30 min compo there, but this idea will suit for this also.

So the "leader" chooses a subject, more weird, the better, ie "Rabbitballoon hunting the fork in the glassbottle"

Because if the subject would be more inspiring than "soldier in warfield holding a big gun" then this would be more fun and all artists could show their good imagination

Comments about this idea? =)

I think such an exercise would be great. It would be important to have a moderator/instructor to help give guidance, though. This person should also set the assignments.
I guess it depends on the purpose. If the goal is to learn how to paint better, then I'm not sure a "subject matter" approach is the best way to go. The basics would be more important.
That's my two cents. I'd love to participate in the assignments.
