After seeing some of these graphics im amazed at the kind of things you can do its crazy I've never seen any thing like this I have a few questions...
1. Do you guys sketch, scan and then paint?
2. How long have you been doing 3d art?
3. Do you use ps only or a combination of programs?
4. If most of your art is done in ps, could you point me to a tutorial where i can learn how to use the different layer, and brush modes, (ex. overlay, hardlight, softlight).
5. could you tell me how u got started and where u learnt all thsi?
Thanks in advance ill be checking back tomorow.
Regards

Hey Craze.
People have different ways of going about it. Dhabih has a tutorial on his site, you might want to check that out for starters. Learning all this is pretty much done by experimenting a LOT, discussing methods with others, and analysing images.

Well, I kind of suck so I'm not really one to be giving advice, but I want to anyway. So there.
Most people (most, not all) use either the dodge-n-burn technique or the airbrush technique. Many people, myself included, use Dhab's method or a variation of it, which is basically coloring in a clean line drawing on Multiply layers and then dodging and burning, then removing the outline either by smudging or whatever. That seems to be a really good technique for most people (although, after seeing Klaivu's pics, I'm thinking of trying that grayscale airbrush technique...). As for how most people learned what they know, I think a lot of people pick up tricks and methods from other people and then make slight variations on them to suit their own preferences. We basically all just mooch ideas off of eachother until we all have styles that we like. Except me, I steal all the ideas I can and can't find a style that I'm good at. Oh well. |

I actually like to sketch a REALLY basic idea and either scan it or look at the sketch and work on the PC to touch it up. Especially when doing modeling in Bryce or Max, it is a good idea to sketch A LOT!
2. How long have you been doing 3d art/digital art?
Almost ten years.
3. Do you use ps only or a combination of programs?
I like to use Canvas7.01 from Denabe almost exclusively. I only occassionally lapse back to Photoshop for its' better handling of text and anti-a.
4. If most of your art is done in ps, could you point me to a tutorial where I can learn how to use the different layer, and brush modes, (ex. overlay, hardlight, softlight).
Sorry, bud I am a self taught man. I believe that it is best to hust pick a weekend and sit there with your program and fall in love. Learn what it likes and hates on your own time.
5. could you tell me how you got started and where u learnt all this?
Well I have always been into art. Soon after I left high school I was in the work field. I pester some people and they help me get started. ^_^
