Hi, I was wondering if any of you know any information about some good colleges of art and design from personal experience.
I'm plannin on majoring in computer art so it'd be helpful if the school catered to that field somewhat.
This is my top 3 choices in order and basically are based on location because I live in Tampa, FL:
Savannah College of Art and Design (Savannah, GA)
Art International Institute (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)
Ringling School of Art and Design (Sarasota, FL)
Now I haven't got a chance to visit any of these colleges yet, will do that this summer, but I was wonderin if anyone knows anything bout any of them or even some other great colleges. Ringling and AII aren't really that appealing to me, I actually really want to goto Savannah, placin all my bets there, but I still should look into other colleges to apply to, that's why I'm lookin for all the information I can get..
Thanks

Yeah I live on the east coast..Heard about some college on the west side of canada...which is very far, and very cold =/
I'm in Tampa, Florida.

Actually I live here in Vancouver, home of two of the best art schools in North America, CDIS (Centre for Digital Imaging and Sound), and VFS (Vancouver Film School). And althought its far, its not that cold. People exagerate as to how cold western Canada really is. Ive visited both schools, and I enjoyed both, since your comming from the states they wouldnt be all that expensive either |

fellow IB dip student! hell yeah what did u do yer Extended Essay on br0?
well, as for Cali colleges, i hear tons and tons (loads!) of great things about Art Center. Check it out.
As far as exemptions are concerned for you're IBH courses...DONT BOTHER! you WANT to take the courses they give u exemption from in first year. From my expiereince, i ended up taking a perspective course i got exemption from anywayz just cuz i knew IBH Art didnt push the envelope enuff for me to justify continuing my drawing without a GREAT college level background in the basics...the same goes for color, composition.
Use your dip for scholarships if anything...unfortunately, i havent seen too many scholarships availiable without them hacking on your portfolio...i think the IB dip means dick-all unless yer going for academics br0
Check out teh Art Institute's in San Fran and LA, thats the school i goto (Art Institute of Seattle) Good school. if u wanna discuss this further, gimmie a buzz, i'd love to help out a fellow br0 who hacked out the same program as me...IB R00LZ!

From what I've heard, Savannah is a very fine art institution. I attended the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio and although this might sound trite coming from an alumni, that school ROCKS! What they lacked in beautiful rolling acres of campus greenery, they MORE than made up for in curriculum. AND, they give scholarships. I got 16,000 for my highschool portfolio, and that was without a drop of paint. (I did primarily pen and ink pieces and pencil renderings) So check em out. They're not as warm as Tampa, but not as far as Vancouver. |

Yea, artcenter is nice. (www.artcenter.edu). Hopefully I will be attending fall of next year, *hopefully*. It's a very small school though, like about 1200 undergrads TOTAL. It's smaller than my high school . Competition is very stiff. I was declined a scholarship for a measly one-class artcenter at night course .
Regards.
