While unpacking boxes from a recent move I found my old sketch book. Since I just got my Graphire, I decided to warm up to my new toy by trying to paint the sketch using a method that seems popular among many here (scan and color). This sketch is about 10 years old. If you squint you can see that it's dated '91. Since then my drawing skills have really declined, hence the coloring instead of a complete new image. I am working on a painting using the painterley method that Joachim tutes on his page. It isn't going as well, but it's getting better. Anyways, I'm aware that it needs a background,it suffers from burn/dodge fuzzies, and it isn't complete. I really only have a couple of hours a week to devote to art so this is going kind of slow, but please don't let that restrain you from critiqueing it. I can use all the help I can get.

Hi Spoon
The detailed arm looks really good!
Keep up the good work, and do post it when finished...

awesome pic man, I might tone down the hair on his arms, or at least the thickness of it, sure he's wolvie, but he's not furry, which is what it kinda looks like to me, anyway great pic, can't wait to see it done |

Thanks for the good words. I think I may post some regular updates of this picture. Maybe to this thread, maybe I'll start a new thread? At the very least I'll post the finished pic.

You might put some body behind Logan.. err.. wolvie's head. You can see right through his hair to the white BG.
I like the Burn method like your pencil shading, produces a nice result, I'll be egar to see what you end up with.

I got home early today from my netware class so I spent an hour or two working on Wolvie.
Failsafe - Thanks for the advice, but I disagree. I am actually quite pleased by the body hair.
Roach - You can see through the hair because I haven't added the highlights yet. I just gave it shape for compisition reasons. I will probably do the hair last.
Here's the latest

Wolverine kicks ass!!!!
Maybe move the eyes in and down a bit? They seem sort of out of place witht hte perspective of the head.
Now where's the Punisher?....

Your right Joe, there is definitely something wrong with the eyes. They were the last bit I did before wrapping up this evening. They are entirely too something and not really speculous enough. Their kinda like two lumps of coal, something about the lighting maybe. As for the Punisher, I found a sketch of him in the same batch as this one. Maybe when I finish the canuck I'll do Frank.
