Here is my Cybergirl only thing im not realy happy with and thats the Hair...I just cant do hair at all!!.. Maybee somone can show me how one day.. anyways what do you think?

all things considerd.. although this is nto finished yet.. - the bottom side of the face needs work as does the hair and the nose...
This is still in rough terms,. but getting there.. so I value your feeback

An overall critique of your pic is, there is no real identifiyng end to your shapes. Things seem to blur together, causing no real focus point to happen. A painting should be looked at as having basic shapes within, those shapes being negative and positive shapes combined. A good book to look into is "Drawing from the Right Side of the Brain." I'm sorry but, I'm not sure of the publisher or author, I could find out and let you guys know if you really are interested.
As far as the dimension of the face goes, there isn't a good contrast going on that shows depth and form to the face. Examples would be the muted shadow under the lip or the absence of protrusion to the nose. Right now the nose looks like it is a texture map on the face with no bump included.(for those who understand 3-d modeling)
Now back to the hair. You have to see it as a shape first and foremost, you basically create a lump of color on her head that has the proper lighting and dimension to it then you add things like varying strands or color subtleties to fool the viewer into thinking their looking at hair. You don't have to literally draw each and every strand. Also remember that the edges of hair get softer tending to blend with the background colors it appears in front of.
I apologize if I was to hard on you, but these are important things to consider when painting a subject. |
