Hey I know there are milliuons of posts about wacom tablets, but im interested in this new tablet from wacom. It is much cheaper than the intuos 4x5 and im am just wondering if you think the new tablet is as good as the intuos and good for a first tablet?
No flames please because this is another tablet post
Whats your opinion on this new tablet, do any of you own this tablet??
Thanxs

This isn't a flame, but if you knew there were millions of posts about this topic then why did you post it...? You might want to read one of those million topics.

probably the pressure levels.
Dunno about Graphire, but intuos has 1024 (and I wanna see atleast ONE artist who can use them all)
dunno, I am not actually into tablets, I prefer mouse.

Freddio, I wouldn't go for a 4x5 pad... get a 6x8, they're so much more comfortable. I used to work with a 4x5 PenPartner and a tear of joy rolled down my face when I first used my Wacom Intuos 6x8. I don't think there's much of a difference between the Intuos and Graphire, but at least get a 6x8. My 2 cents... |

I got my Graphire about 2 weeks ago and I love it. It's much more intuitive to draw with than a mouse is. Controling the pen took some getting used to, about 7 to 10 days, but after that the difference in production is amazing. I have used the mouse for years for photo manipulation but was simply unable to draw or paint with it. Since getting the graphire I have started several projects that show a lot of promise and my painting skills have improved (thanks in small part to this forum and its members). I like the graphire so much that I take it to work and use the included mouse for regular desktop control.
The only difference between the graphire and the Intous seems to be precision of control. The Graphire only has 512 levels of pressure while the Intous has 1024. I've also noticed that if I draw a big circle really quick on a large canvas in PS that the graphire will tend to interpret angles in the smooth motion.
I don't know if the Intous does the same thing or not, but I would presume that it does not and that is the reason for some of the price difference. At only $70 or $80 for the graphire though, the only reason not to get one is because you already own an Intous. Sorry to sound like the Prophet of Wacom, but I really do enjoy mine and wish that I had bought one sooner.

My UD-series 6x8 ArtZII does the angular strokes in Photoshop too... no way around it!
The Intuos USB tablet does it too!... no way around it!
My friends and I have several tablet setups and they all behave like this in Photoshop, whereas Painter is working smoothly!
So I think that the actual problem might be with Photoshop!

I'm not sure if the number of pressure levels matters much. All the older Wacoms (circa 1994-96) have only 256 pressure levels and they're quite usable. So 512 on Graphire handily beats those not-very-old pro tablets...
Anyway, I'm starting to hate these tablet threads. I guess I'll have to put up a Wacom FAQ myself if there's no other way to make this stop.
