I was just wondering about this the other day. Some of the skins are crap, and they have programs to generate skins, but they again, you can use all filters for images. Oh yeah, I also wanted an opinion on my new skin (which I mainly do because I'm a panzy and can't do regular "digital art")
so here's the URL: http://surphun.quadrent.net/relic.jpg

I would appreciate everyone's opinion on this..

I'd say so, that's an awesome skin, if it was functional i'd probably use it now!

Should skinning be considered as an art ? Well that depends on what kind of skinning you mean, flesh skinning or model skinning or WinAmp Skins. I consider the last two as an art. Yeah, it's an art too, it needs a great talent to make a cool WinAmp skin like yours.

yeah its an artform, blah blah.. but more importantly that is a really damn cool skin you made surphun. reminds me of the visual style of the french movie City of Lost Children - if you've never seen it then go out and find the DVD right away got any other skins youve done lately you'd like to show us?

form and function in tight symbiosis. if it's not art then it's design, I dunno.

all right, cool. thanks everyone. I think skinning should be held higher than it is
beacuse it's really tough if you skining a program that isn't free-form (like winamp) because then you have constraints and barriers which make it even harder to create something that looks good and flows. (I prefer to skin fixed format programs, otherwise I find myself not able to find stuff)
anywho, I really only skin winamp (that is a winamp skin) and more of my skins are at: http://surphun.quadrent.net/skins.html

I've been adventuring into a finese and flow style, after starting with the "simplicity and usability" concept.

anyway, thanks guys.
