Is there a way to repair an image once you have received this most dreadful message?
I tried manually repairing this image by repainting the screwed up areas but when I save it and reopen, it gives me the same error and gets worse
It's got to the point where I'm scared to close PS...

Wow... you really have a problem there
Have you tried to save the image to a different filename on another drive/partition?
...well, you probably have...
Good Luck!

Print screen doesn't seem to work while that error is on screen but it said
This Document has been damaged by disk error... essentially blames the harddisk or SCSI cables (I don't have SCSI).
I tried saving in several partitions under several names. I tried copying the layers that were unaffected into a new canvas accentually rebuilding and redrawing the layers that were effected. Still it gives me an error and screws up something. Iv tried almost everything I can think of, and I know if I close PS the image will not look the same when I open it back up.
The only thing I can do now is finish her without closing the file and try flattening all the layers and saving under a different format (something I don't want to do).
I suspect the error occurs during the "Preparing to save" stage meaning no amount of copying will help and saving a backup will also be pointless.
Iv done everything and I don't want to give up on her, and I never draw the same thing twice. |

Snake - do you have another harddisk on your machine? Or a ZIP-drive? Try saving it on those.
Also - when you're working, are you always overwriting one file or do you keep different versions (like "painting1.psd, painting2.psd, etc)? Because if you're just saving to the same spot you might want to try to save it out under a different name, so if there's any bad blocks on that spot of the disk (which rarely happens though) the new file is saved on a different location. |

what loki said wouldn't be a bad idea,., my suggestion would be to change the scratch disk, or turn it off, then try to save the image and see if it comes out all right,..
if so, the if you're on a pc, try running scandisk and defrag on the hard drive it might have bad sectors...
also clear out the c:\temp, and the c:\windows temp files,... this could associate with the problem..
if none of these work, the next step i would choose would to re-install photoshop,.. and if the problem still occurs,. it might be a problem with your cache chip or Ram,..
