I was wondering what do you usually begin with as far as dimensions and resolution. |

In almost all of the images in my gallery i start at the size you see in the final. I prefer to work at a resolution where i can see the whole or most of the image on the screen. Another thing i'll do though if i want a higher rez pic is to draw it at 800x600 or something like that then scale it up when its still pretty rough, then start adding more detail. that way i have the composition i want while seeing the whole image before blowing it up real big.
(i dont like working on an image while zoomed out either)

Dhabih,
What about prints? What res do you do them in or how do you deal with 300| |600dpi printing? Do you just upscale at print time and leave it like that? How much does it show if you leave some pic in 72dpi as source?
frost.

Frost, while I was printing my pics (which were done in 72dpi) I got pretty nice results (ofcourse, not as good as you would get with 263dpi setting). When I tried to boost the rez (to lets say 150) I got a SHITTY printout.
Well, I did print taht on my Epson Stylus, altho I don't know how would it behave if you printed it out on film (CMYK) and then on paper.
But, if you are aiming for HIGH Quality printing I suggest 263dpi (its a standard for most printing machines {not printers}.

We usually print at 300dpi for full-color and 600dpi for lineart... most desktop-printers can handle up to 600dpi these days, another question is if your computer can handle it
