I'm finding a hard time looking for contract web design jobs, and the ones I do find want a portfolio of sites I have done, but I have no more than maybe two web sites to show them. Any suggestions or web sites? |

be the one to approach potential clients. these include:
- business aka "professional" sites that look like they've been done by a 12 year-old kid who got his hands on Alienskin Eyecandy and finally found out what filters->lens flare did
- radio stations, theaters, fastfood stores, and the like that do not yet have a website
- isps, usually they'll be the ones looking for new web talent since they probably have a webdesign team of their own
since you don't have a portfolio all you have to do is tell them you're going to make them a site, the contract will be that you will do a site with no downpayment whatsoever in order for the business to have an online presence in the web. now, you make their site and communicate with them always, until finally the site is done and tell them if you like the site, then so be it, but if they didn't at least your clients won't feel cheated and now you can put the unused site in your portfolio, hence benefitting you as well. if your clients accept the site, then good, you have taken the first step. most often than not, if they really liked your job they will refer you to their contacts thus you will have more future clients so strive to do your best |

All I can say is, design sites to show them...that's all they want. You need something to show them that you can design sites before they hire you to design sites for them.
If you want you can contact GA (www.gagames.com) for a job since I recently quit because they suck, I'm sure they have a few positions open for designers. If you don't mind never communicating with the people you work for they're a good place to start. Right now i'm tied between working for GSI and GameFan, hmmmmm

If you have only done two sites, then why are you applying for a job within web design?
Ok, so if you want sites for a portfolio; then make homepages for your friends and relatives. And most importantly, one for yourself. Design firms look for people who have experience, so make as many sites as you can. A site about your dog Fluffy, a site about your bathroom! Who cares!
Good luck!
