Hey Guys,
I was wondering if any of you have a strange way of holding your pen/pencil/paintbrush/whatever? I for example, have a REALLY messed up way of holding my drawing utencils. Some people think it's really strange, and some people think it's really cool. I think it's pretty gay, but it's the only way I can draw Check it out:
As weird as it looks, I've actually come across a few AMAZING comic artists and architects that hold it the same way. Strange, eh?

Yup my friend draws like that too.
Its not how you hold it, its how you use it and what you make of it

I agree zapman, but in today's world where almost everything is based on physical appearence and conformity, it's sorta stinks that I have such a strange method.
But nevertheless, it will never change, so I say fuck 'em |

Me, I normally just use the old trinity: Thumb, index, middle. For larger stuff I find the 'turn the pen sideways' approac is good. I remember my teacher telling us about that way beck when I was probably about 10, and I just didn't get it. I thought it was useless, becaus eI tried to do the same thing I would do with the other grip, and it was only much later that I realized what it was good for...

I have to agree, it's the traditional 'claw' method for me too
Don't ask about the claw part.
Have to say (as this is my first post) how impressed I am with the quality of both the work and the community on this board, hope I can live up to it.

I'm feeling ripped off right now
I mean, Mongoose has been responsible for more masturbation references than anyone around here. Then he starts a thread with that title and this is what we get!!? |

With my hand. Isn't how everyone holds a pencil?

Where's that baseball bat? Just when I need it (to beat the crap out of dennison) I can't find it. Dude, what you do in your own time is up to you - I just don't want to hear about it! |

I tried your way, Mongoose, and it turned out quite a lot like the way I draw with my left hand... |

mongo
how do you get the pencil to flow, when you hold it like that?,. i can draw ok like that, but i don't get the angles and the movement i need,. i suppose if you just use a mechanical pencil that does alright,. but when you nee the side of a regular pencil for wide strokes it just doesn't work,. |

I just twist my wrist in all types of contorted positions, it really does look quite silly. Whatever the case, it works for me
