Someone has revised the definition of speed painting on Wiki.
And now it is pretty much dead on !

Hi guys,
Well, I have not posted here in a long time, but here is the first place ever that I found Speed Painting stuff and the great artists who inspired me to do the same back then to become a better artist and until now.
Then a few days back I found this on Wikipedia

Well, I usually never get bother by things, but somehow that bothers me and I think it is just not right, Speed Painting was basically incubate here with the great Craig Mullins, Sparth, Wassup, Vyle, and many other who has in spired me back then until now.

Anyway, I am thinking about helping editing the wiki page and restore Speedpainting name into its honor and glory with the rigthful people who actually did Speedpaint.
And I hope if you guys have time, please help us edit the page.

Donno just some rant, but if you agree LET's do this!!!

That first thread by "Mr.T" might be the genesis. Craig Mullins (both spooge demon and worthless_meat_sack) sees something interesting in the idea right from the start. But I don't know if there were threads before this one that might have preempted Mr.T's thread.

Dude, Mullins and Sparth weren't the first one to paint a picture fast. Alla Prima painting and/or Plein Air painting can be speedpaintings too. Speedpainting is not a word that digital artists came up with and it is surely not bond to digital art.
I dont know about the farthest history of the speedpainting threads here, but if it was born here for digital art, okay, add it, but I think it is a much wider idea behind speedpainting than just running PS one and a half hours.

thanks for posting those Sumaleth, its funny when you hit a random image still working while reading through those old threads.
I think the big idea of the speedpainting stuff here wasn't just painting fast, but "paint-to-post" with other artists chatting,havin a good time and trying to learn together. I'd say it'd be worth it to add to the wiki though cause the sp threads are pretty well known and lots of badass pros have participated through the years. Its kindof like you could be a peon at guitar and go into a room with everybody from yourself up to awesome rockstars, and everyone helps each other out...well thats pretty amazing if you think about it...don't see that happen all so often

i think it is worth to add such info about our digital sp thread. it is already legendary. also useful for current artists and future generation. I think speedpainting existed already for ten thousands years ago make a speedie with animal blood.

Are there some rule of thumbs that you guys follow when you do speed painting? Like, block the big shapes in first, shadows, highlights? Change brushes for different objects?

I'm wondering on what people should focus more on and what people should focus less on. I tend to focus on details too much, and when I do block the big shapes, I am pretty careless with them, but it doesn't seem to work to be careless with the big shapes in speed painting.
