Okay, I don't understand it at ALL.
Do I pay for a domain name and then do I have to go and register for hosting? Are they 2 separate things or do I get server space when I sign up for the domain?
Could someone just explain the process of getting a domain and server space?
Thanx

JasonN#@!#! Where have you been?!?! Ok sorry I'm in a weird mood.
Anyway, most domain hoster peoples will register your domain name for you. I suggest doing that because it often makes it less complicated. If you're tight on cash and want a different domain name service you can do them seperately, but you'll have to read the webhosting peoples rules on transferring domain names. If you get your domain name from anywhere other than InterNIC they might not be able to transfer it so you might have to contact the domain name people and ask THEM to transfer it!
It can get confusing and I don't know if I explained it well, but I suggest finding where you want to buy space from, and having them register your domain name for you (most give you that option)

Hi Jason,
Yea, you have to pay for your domain and your hosting seperately. Most hosting companies WILL register it for you, but there is still a free of $70 US charged by Network Solutions (InterNIC). On top of that, you have to pay a certain amount (approx. $10-$15) per month to a hosting company to host your domain.
Personally, I reccomend Hostway . They have incredible Tech Support, really low prices, and lots of frills. I've been with approximately 8 hosting companies over the years, and these guys are by far the best. I hope this helped you.

Okay, thanks Nicole and mongoose, that has definetely cleared a lot up for me.
The costs you mentioned from interNIC sound a little steep, so I'll check out hostway soon. Well, thanks for the advice!
PS - I haven't posted here for about 2 months, but I've been reading the board every now and then. A lot of new faces!
