Looking for some simple free 3d software. I wanna be able just to put down some squares and get perspective on it instead of sketching.
I am familiar with 3dmax but i would prefer a simple interface cause I only wanna put down some squares to get proportions and perspective.
thanks
I guess I could search for it but I am hoping someone is using something similar or know about something similar so I do not have to go through a big pile of different 3d software, I did this with painting software just recently.

google's sketchup? it's basically made for architecture and simple blocks I think. Blender is free too but the UI is a disaster IMO, not sure if you will like it. |

Definitely Sketchup. Blender is hard to learn at first and takes a while just to figure out how to put a block on the grid. _________________ TNT Reduct Sale. |

I gave it a try, not sure yet. You know I am more comfortable with polygons and shit and sketching was just confusing...
hmm I registered for Truespace 7.6, tried it a little but it's not what I am looking for.
Looking for something very primitive, boxes would suffice. I guess camera add to the scene and yea some sort of perspective setting. Tried Blender but too much shit in the way.
Well I guess I could go back to 3dmax....?
Any more tips would really be appreciated. thanks for the above tips.[/quote] |

I prefer 3dsmax for any block modeling I might need to do. It's just so much more flexible than something like SketchUp. |

SketchUp is polygons. Is doesnt get more simple than that program.
I use Lightwave for my serious work, but that takes 20-100 hours to figure out.
The SketchUp learning time is 1 afternoon. |

I agree with Mikko, Max is the most effective by far, however, its more than a bit pricey. |

there is a disadvantage with sketchup, can't really make boxes in the air and seems to be groundbased modeling.
However I found a way around it but it was too much work, will definitely look into cinema.
Is it free?
thanks |

Click the Select arrow, drag over box, use CTRL to add to selection.
Click Move icon, move around.
It does start on the ground, but you dont have to stay there. |

Tried cinema out, hell I have tried a lot of them out already. Wings, truespace, daz and blender...lol. Confused though have to give them some more time to know which one to pick.

ah fuck I was gonna use 3d but it turns out I am such a chaotic painter that I keep
changing the environment so much that the previous 3d is gone after 3 strokes, fuck I am doomed. |

Go with Silo. In addition to being super cheap it has some of the best and easy to learn modeling tools out there. Check the demo out for yourself.

hello umbus, i have also been using 3d & i think its good & simple but if u want more simple then you can go for autocadd, 3d canvas, cheif architecture or revitt. all the best. _________________ (no spam) |

Hey maan I took that advice later on with Blender, still trying to get familiar with all the buttons and different methods to model. Once you get more familiar with it the UI it is really good, confusing to go from 3d max and try to teach yourself Blender... after a lof of time put in it is possible though.
Still trying to learn more about the software though. |

Blender is a very powerful tool once you learn it, but the learning curve is horrible, especially if you just want to use it for 3d perspective sketching.
It's probably better to learn to construct the perspective manually, but I found that it's still a good idea to build simple 3d models for very complex mechanical objects, like aircraft.
If you just need to build the perspective in 3d space and not planning to seriously get into 3d stuff, use Sketchup. There are a lot of ready-made objects available for it, so you don't necessarily need to model anything at all. |

Ah yes, I'll have to take a look at it, and maybe post some of my 3d work as well
I'm an animator and I'm using Blender as my main 3d workstation software, so I know how powerful it can be.. All 3d workstation programs are difficult to learn and master. Unfortunately, Blender is not an exception.
It's definitely worth learning though, if you're into 3d work. |
