Hi guys,

I'm a really new to art, drawing etc. And when I mean new I mean I've never really drawn anything before apart from doodles. So, I decided to teach myself and working through Loomis and doing some studying on perspective (Gnomon, Scott Robertson) but right at the beginning. Anyway I have also been learning Photoshop for a bit using with the manual, a few magazines and Caplin's book and this is my first effort. I'm also interested in digital painting and am looking at 2D Mag etc.

Anyway I know it's not great but it's a start. I feel that the wings are wrong in the image and possibly the lighting on the man but I don't know how to fix them. I also thing maybe it lacks detail. Should I paint over it with some brushes to get some texture like in the flames? I'm not sure where to take it from here. Please can you give me some c&c and a lil bit of help I REALLY want to get better because I really enjoy it. Thanks

If that doesn't show up then I've put it at....

They fit stylistically into this image, so it's really more a question of what you want than what's needed.

To me they look a bit more like metal blades than feathers, and because they don't follow the position of his body they look more symbolic than realistic. But like I said, they still fit the style of the image, so neither point is necessarily a negative.

Hi, Thanks for that. Metal blades wasn't what I intended at the beginning but it sort of fits with the idea anyway Smile

I really do want to make the wings look like there attached to the body though. I know that their not in the right position but I'm really not sure how to make them look like they are attached (maybe shading...?) and how to correct the perspective. Not quite at the level yet where I know how to fix things...more at the level where things look wrong but not sure how to put them right. Rolling Eyes

Any help would be much appreciated

Hey,

Find the focal point by using two point perspective. Since you have a building in the background and your subject (the african man) has the same inclination this should be easy by using his shoulder or nipples as reference points.

Change the wing position by using perspective again, by looking for reference points (I used his shoulder blades and nipples) to find his (the model) perspective, the horizon and using 2 similar point of each wing to match the models perspective.

I put the wings in the correct position here.

Well folks, I know that it cost less to produce a copy from a LaserJet printer, but I've become good at filling those inkjet cartridges plus Walgreen's and others offer inexpensive refills. So, I was wondering which kind of printer would be good for my home network. Also, I have a tiny home business and I have to print clothing tags on light cardboard. Do you know how I figure out which printer would do this?
