Ehh. This is kind of a crap pic, but what do you expect. I was at a lan until 5AM and just worked a 12 hour day on 3 hours of sleep, and busted this out in 20 minutes.....and was got quite tipsy in the process. :P I think I'm set for bed.
It's an entrance button for my friend Chris' website. No filters used. Just a 5 Pixel airbrush. Let me know what ya think.
Later, and hopefully this will break my long-ass dry spell.

Yeah, what's wrong with filters?
Did you use smudge for the water effect?
I think a filter would could have come handy there...

Oops. Last night I was tired, and it shows in that post. I didn't use Filters because I don't have Photoshop on my CPU at the moment. This was done in Painter, and I haven't taken the time to get or learn any filters for it. Sorry for the confusion.

...because too often people use filters as crutches for their artwork. Don't get me wrong, I believe filters are a good part of the learning process, but they shouldn't be everything. By learning to do things manually, you get an unprecedented amount of creative and visual control over your own artwork. I've seen too many people rely on bloody lens flares to "complete" their work, when all it does is make it look kinda cheap! |

I couldn't have said it better myself Turbo. Filters are great for paying jobs for me, or images that need to be quick.....but I like yutzing around with every damn tool in the programs I have and figuring out what makes what tick. Filters kind of take the fun out of my personal stuff. I used one in my first digital pic, and now that i look back at it, tht lens flare could go, and the pic would benefit greatly from any personal lighting I did instead of letting the cpu crunch the work. Sure, it may be slow, but I think I am making slow, but steady, progress.
Nothing against filters in moderation. IMO. But they can kill a picture.....

Just thought I'd put my 2 bits in here..
Filters definitely have thier place.. I use them all the time in my web graphics. But after seeing an infinite number of "logos" and "banners" that look like a bunch of monkeys were given access to KPT and the lens flares, I'm always happy to say "I used no filters in this image" After all, we are more intelligent than monkeys.

IO, you're *damn* fortunate the majority of the monkey community doesn't have access to computers (at least here in the US). Otherwise, I have a feeling your ass would be knee-deep in a field of pissed-off baboons.
