Hey everyone!
It's been a while since the last group activity (Tiles, Challenge),
so i thought I'd ask around if anyone's interested in making a new one?
The last ones were a lot of fun and since the Speedpainting-Thread seems to be pretty busy these days,
I guess there should be some people, who find the time to participate.
Personally, I'd prefer a Sijun Challenge with an open theme (just like "weightless" was).
What about a round based contest with a knockout?
What do you guys think?
Come on Sijuners, let's get a little social again!

I've moved this discussion bit to Discussion. The actual thread can go in Finished.
I tried to start one with the help of Ben Mauro a while ago, but I think he got busy and couldn't do it. _________________ Art Links Archive -- Artists and Tutorials |

challenge sounds good
maybe a team challenge, where 2 people team up ? or round based with knockout would be cool as well |

I think a competitive challenge is a great idea. The last man standing contest over at conceptart.org turns out some amazing work. My only problem with elimination rounds is that the people who need practice and portfolio pieces the most end up knocked out after their first entry. I wonder if there is a format we could do where everyone participates in several rounds, and then there is a final round to determine the overall winner. _________________ artpad.org |

Ok so here's my idea. It's based on a winners/losers bracket system. This model is assuming there's 12 participators. Each round, there's a new theme, or a continuous theme just a different approach each round. Erm. Hope it's not too confusing. What do you guys think?
ehh ehhh?

Nice system Only concern I have is that you'd have to commit to several deadlines before deciding to participate, which at least for me could be a bit more difficult...
I loved the last Weightless competition, even though this would be more fun to follow if enough participants decide to join! |

Well so far it seems that 9 people are interested. Maybe a round every week? I'm not too great at organizing these things, is anyone up for moderating this? Who else wants in? Be quick! |

haha glad you guys like the plan. seems like we have a lot of people interested.
sooooo who wants to take lead in organizing it? I can help with the chart and randomizing the who vs who for the first round, but I'm not capable being on top of votes and such. Er, I could try, but if someone else is up for it, it would be better.
Frooty loops, what's your take on this? |

Well, I guess I'm the perfect one to do this either
How are we going to make the voting system? PMs? Are we going to make a topic for each round? Are the people posting their pictures or just sending them in per PM?
Just some questions flying around in my head...
I guess a PM based voting would be ok, if the voting is opened when all the pictures from one round are done. So that people are sending in their winners for every match in that round. _________________ My Flickr Account |

I agree that the voting systems should be PMs, with a new theme per round. It would be cooler to post the entries instead of PMing them. any other suggestions guys? |

I think if you are going to go with an open "theme" competition, you should simply start a 'X' Challenge Finished Entries thread, with voting by PM AFTER the closing date for entries, for 7-10 days. While this may swamp your PMs, it will only be for a set time period, and this way, people won't vote and then want to vote again if someone posts an entry they like better.
So, what possible topics are we looking at? _________________ Life is short. Expect nothing, enjoy everything.

Okay I guess Ill go ahead and organize the matches, schedules etcI just wont be allowed to vote because Id like to participate as well. I suppose an emphasis on illustration rather than looser sketching (speedpainting?) is preferred for the entries.
At the end of each round, everyone send me the final image at [email protected] or PM. The final image will then be posted next to the opponents image in a community thread (not created yet..) in the finished works section. (or let me know if you want to do open posts to see everyone elses work before the round ends etc..)
If your opponent is a no show, then you automatically win towards the winners bracket.
Then there is a round of pm voting, in the form of a list. For example send me a list like this;
Round One voting:
Person A vs Person B: Person B!
Person C vs Person D: Person C!
Person E vs Person F: Person E!
Etc etcuntil everyone is listed
You cannot vote for yourself or your opponent, duh.
Then I will adjust the Brackets accordingly for the next round.
18 people total (alphabetical):
1. alyssa milano
2. annisahmad
3. Cicinimo
4. eren
5. fruity_loops
6. Hideyoshi
7. LadyLioness
8. Max
9. med
10. Misc
11. neff
12. Notic
13. Sampster
14. sweetums
15. Synnical
16. On
17. Vahn
18. w@sker
If you are not on the list and would like to join, please act now. August 4th is the deadline to enter so I can make the first bracket chart. (Which will be randomly generated by computer)
As for themes, I looked around at random illustrations and jotted down their themes. Some are specific and some arent, let me know what kinds of themes you would like. We can just vote on a theme every round, instead of choosing them all ahead of time. Also, with 18 people on board, there will be more rounds than illustrated in my chart.
Themes;
Sci-fi
Fantasy (elves etc..?)
Reality
Sub Themes;
Environmental center of attention:
Puzzle Environment
Air Ships with Sails
Soldiers pre-battle
Ancient Ruins
Zombie Attack
Large Scale Destruction
New Realm Discovery (Mystical?)
Surrounded
Small vs. Big
Character/Action center of attention:
Girls
Relaxed conversation between mystical creatures/people
Fairies with guns
Lonely robot
Superhero gender switch illustration
Zombies/undead
Cyborg mechanical chick?
Mythological
Escaped
Rescue
I hope I didnt make this too complicated, and I guess I do have a lot of time on my hands for now. So lets make this happen!
Start throwing out your opinions on themes, and the most favorable will be for the first round. w00t |

Who votes for the winners? Just the people in the contest, or everyone at Sijun? If it's everyone, why not just use the poll? If everyone is voting, I don't see the harm in letting people vote for themselves. They'll just cancel each other out. |

Hey med, nice move from you to do the dirty organisation work!
Let me know if i can help you out in any kind of way.
Small vs. Big sounds like a cool theme to me. Generally I'd prefer something that leaves a little more space for interpretation, so that everyone can bring in a little bit of originality.
@ Drew: I guess the problem is that you'd have to make a topic for each match within a round, in order to have a poll for every single one of them. This would probably end up being pretty messy.
I'm excited _________________ My Flickr Account |
