I am in desperate need of help. I want to draw a zergling from Starcraft and I can do awesome line art but as soon as I color I ruin everything... example:
and
Can someone please point me in the right direction!?
I also use http://www.starcraft2.com/images/artwork/ss35-hires.jpg as a reference with complete admiration. How do you know what colors to blend? and how can I make it so my drawings don't look like they were colored in the early 90's? _________________ As simple as an apple with insides of a honeycomb |

No pointers or a shove in the right direction eh?
Well let me just say one thing. I am really bad with patience... I find myself adding in detail early on. Any tips for that?
Any tips at all? _________________ As simple as an apple with insides of a honeycomb |

You've got a reference image you're copying from there, so it's hard to know how tips would help. All that can be said is "make it like the reference image".
It's a good exercise, you just need to carry through on it. _________________ Art Links Archive -- Artists and Tutorials |

Thanks Sumaleth. I will continue my efforts later on, I feel like I need to look at myself in a mirror and paint what I see to gain practice. I can't just hop into this intense project in my head without the experience to do it. _________________ As simple as an apple with insides of a honeycomb |

The only real tip I can give is to paint the piece as a whole, don't get too caught up in one spot. Also, don't stop painting, most great paintings look like crap at first, its only in the last hour or so that things really start coming together. Just keep going and keep painting over. Look for basic shapes and block those in.
Anywho, I'm not much of a concept artist but I have seen what works for most people. I hope this helps. _________________ Truth is the essence of life, if that truth flows freely from you then why do so many choose to ignore it? --me |

Not yet, I have been trying practice and brush up on my painting skills. Look at my other entry - [WIP] Practice Painting - Babis. _________________ As simple as an apple with insides of a honeycomb |
